We went into the Trafford centre store today to purchase 2 wedding rings. We found the ones we liked ourselves and asked to try them on.
The lady who served us was very confident that she knew what was important to us and that she knew which metals were suitable. She looked at my vintage white gold engagement ring and told me it was Platinum as gold does not wear too well, I advised her it was Gold and she asked me who'd told me that, the shop I bought it from, she took it away from me to ask a colleague who informed her it was gold. I was then told that new gold would not last that well and that I would be better with something else.
Whilst we were trying the rings on, the lady was asking my partner questions relating to her faulty TV set as she found out that this is his trade - we were buying the most important jewellery of our lives and she was more concerned about her TV. She asked my partner to write down what he would recommend she buy and ask him to explain what to ask for in the electrical shop and then where to go. All of this whilst I was trying to hand her the ring we wanted to buy. Needless to say, we did not purchase the rings, my partner was furious that he was made to think about work when we were shopping for our wedding rings and despite finding the perfect ring he refused to buy from the store because of this.
The lady said to us on our way out to come back to her if we want the rings as she'll give us 10% off. This still isn't enough to tempt us back after this lack of interest in the shop's customers.
