James Joyce's, Dubliners is a collection of short stories that are very accessible.
It is very simply written, and Joyce takes you on lots of little journeys into the lives of various Dubliners, and it appears to be saying things along the way about the Irish nation and the psyche of its people.

Anyone who believes the hype about the Frank Startup, James Joyce (Beginner's Guides) book being difficult, should read it. Afterwards, I had no problem digging in, and I thoroughly enjoyed the many hints and suggestions given, which were mainly to dive in and keep going. It worked marvelously, and I've since re read it 3 times; each time getting more and more from the text. ...
