What a horrible thing this device is. Cheap and nasty not like the nice solid push button one that business users get. The string bit is surely going to break so you really wouldn't want to carry it about.
yet another decline in service standards since the good old Midland Bank days I first banked with.

the secure key is for your own best interest. surely if that makes your money safer when logging on to internet banking, then that what you presumably want it to be. or you rather have someone hacking into your account and have your money taken? And then you could claim that surely it is hsbc's fault and they have to refund you the money, and that they are not doing enough to protect your money. It only makes sense that they want to protect your money as well as themselves from fraud. It is all about risk and how to reduce the risk and its consequences. simple. and by the way, no website on the internet is 100% secure against hackers, whether it is hsbc website or not, so don't try to blame on poorly run website either.
