“Specialized Sirrus Comp 2011”

★★★★★

written by DELTAGOLF on 20/12/2011

I have just bought a Specialized Sirrus Comp 2011. It is a sporty hybrid, combining elements from road bikes as well as hybrids. It is a good looking, light, responsive and comfortable bike. It is fast and climbs well, yet it will handle less than perfect roads with ease. I have fitted mud-guards and a rack to use it for hauling my weekly shopping. My first impressions are wholly positive. I have even been able to keep up with road bikes on my commute. The only negative so far is that the gear shifting is not as fast as I would like it. Wholly recommended. My rating: 90%

It's great that we are able to get the personal loans and this opens up completely new opportunities.

I own the Sirrus Pro Model 2009, which has a full carbon frame, Shimano 105 derailleur and FSA triple crankset 50/39/30. Please note that there are different Sirrus models available!

The Sirrus Pro is an excellent bike. It's frame is very stiff, yet comfortable to ride (thanks to the Zirtz damping). Honestly, I can't think of any better frame. The bike is light and so it's great fun to climb up hills, easy for everybody with the high gear ratio. Here, I wonder if there is any difference to a rather good road race bike at all?

The components are of good quality, however, you might think to make some and the other upgrade.

I can highly recommend this bike - it's just excellent!

I've had my Specialized Sirrus only for a couple of days, but my first impression is a very good one. Very good position on the bicycle, nice hard and thin tires, narrow handlebar (I put bar-ends on it, which I would recommend everyone to do) - all that accounts for excellent riding speed. Saddle hasn't given me any problems so far (which I usually get with new bikes), neither have the foot pedals.

Only slight negative observed so far is that when shifting gears the chain doesn't engage with the cog quite as quickly as you'd like to, and there seems to be minimal friction of the chain on some part when riding in the highest gear.

It's probably early for an overall conclusion, but if I don't get major problems with repairs I'll be a very happy bunny, especially considering the relatively low price of the bicycle.

Having owned 2 Sirrus Elite bikes I thought I would upgrade to a Comp. The stiff hard ride was to be expected from a sportier model with higher PSI tyres. Fast and relatively light it seems an ideal commuter bike. However it is let down by poor quality. Maybe I have a dud, but I am in the bike shop nearly every week with some problem or the other. I think the quality is just not there, parts rusting after only 3 months of 10 miles a day commute, tyres not puncture resistant enough for town use, and the infernal click that no one seems to be able to fix. Such a shame - expected more for the money.

bought a new 2008 pro.I love this bike! The carbon frame is very stiff & you do feel every pebble so mabye its not for everyone but I have had a full knee replacement & the ride is not a problem for me. I put carbon riser bars, carbon stem,Veredistein cyclocross tires & smarty M2 pedals on my bike for year round riding & I have no complaints.

★★★★★

written by on 15/09/2009

I realised I was wearing out my MTB on the roads Sunday morning exercise runs of 10 - 15 miles so considered a hybrid with a road bike bias. No point in too much of an overlap with the MTB. Tried out the basic model and it felt very lively but very harsh. I thought I might as well try the Elite which is the more expensive model with the carbon forks expecting not much difference (only perhaps to the weight) but it was a revelation. MUCH smoother. I don't worry too much about drain covers etc and the flat bars are great for me. It is great fun and MUCH more efficient on the road without the font suspension and the narrower tyres @ 100 psi! Now use it for commuting and save the MTB for off road only. It feels so sluggish in comparison on road.

“I bought the 2008 Specialized Sirrus Pro bike used off...”

★★★★☆

written by mountaingoat on 12/09/2009

I bought the 2008 Specialized Sirrus Pro bike used off the SF Bay Area Craigslist about a month ago.
I have an entry level road bike with low end components and a mountain bike, so I wanted upgraded components and lighter frame.
For less than $700.00 I got practically new full carbon bike with good components. The rear derailleur is a deore. Specialized specs said it was 105. ??
Only complaint, I lost a bladed spoke, unable to find a replacement at local bike shops. had to replace with a round one. None carried any length bladed spokes.
Good steep hill road climber and strong brakes. Good in traffic. Light and comfortable. Good looking. 2008 about $1,000. less than 2009, new. 2009 SRAM, 2008 Shimano 105 mix. The 2008 components are fine.
Happy I bought it, it is what I expected, I use it about one third of the time.

The 2009 specialized Sirrus sport is the best bike I've ever had.
Having ridden a 2008 model for a week a few months ago I knew I had to get the pedals and the tyres changed before I left the shop. I put slightly larger pedals (I don't have big feet) and armadillo tyres with proper tread and it was perfect. The tyres it comes with are rubbish and you will get lots and lots of punctures. Looks brilliant. Very comfortable on good roads and very fast..

I found this review very helpful because..you made good points about the tires. Just bought a 09 in Toronto and I will look into changing the tires before leaving the shop.

written by chat on 01/09/2008

I found the Sirrus a very stylish, well finished bike which was fast and smooth on good roads however, for commuting on most town and city roads it was not really up to the job. The ride is too harsh due to the racing bike style wheels and tyres. I have reverted to a mountain bike with slicks which is far more comfortable and surprisingly only a little slower.

Excellent bike for commuting. Front forks are Cromoly material, lacks shocks on bumpy roads. Still the Specialized Sirrus is a great bike with high end deraillers.

I just got my 2008 Sirrus last night but the handlebars rattle a lot...leaving my left arm tingly when I got to work this morning. What used to take 1 hr 15 mins on my mtn bike to commute to work only took 1 hr with my Sirrus. I like it, but not too crazy about it.

★★★★★

written by rexxumus on 01/12/2007

For the record, I love my 2007 Sirrus. The large diameter wheels and slender road tyres (combined with its unusually light weight), give the bike a zippy feel, as commuting on the Sirrus takes much less time as compared to my mountain bike. The solid frame/forks contribute to its nimble and precise handling, although it is a bumpy ride. I find that since most of the riders weight is distributed over the rear wheel, full rear tyre pressure reduces road friction considerably, and makes for a faster ride. The front tyre, however, can be inflated to as little as half that of the rear tyre, which reduces road vibration through the hands and arms alot. This smoothes out the otherwise stiff ride nicely. The bike is also nice enough that upgrading a few components isn't out of place either. I upgraded the Sora rear derailleur to an Ultegra 9sp unit. I didn't need the upgrade, but I'm a component junkie. The stock components should provide 2000 to 3000 miles of trouble free service, however. To this day, I still get compliments on the bike!

Meijiman's Response to 328422_rexxumus's Review

I have an earlier version of this bike, purchesd new, possibly a 2005. I have no complaints but also upgraded from the Sora dureallier to Ultegra and the stock no-name brakes to Doure XT (?) and next the front dureallier to Ultegra. The stock components worked well enough apart from my front dureallier which had chain rub in the highest gear. The difference is enormous and I use this bike to ride for speed and comfort. I found the Sirrus's crank set doesn't work quite as well as it should with the front dureallier. I will have to change the crank set at some point.
