BarrySnotter's review of Skipton, Herriots Hotel

“Not cheap but worth it.”

★★★★☆

As perhaps the most upmarket hotel in Skipton, a stay at Herriot's isn't particularly cheap. However, it still represents good value. The place has a rather unique feel, decorated lavishly but tastefully. The rooms are spotless and luxurious. Staff were attentive and thoroughly professional, although not all that friendly. I should imagine it is popular in summer owing to it's well-kept beer garden and it's doorstep proximity to both the train station and a park.

Skipton itself is a lovely little town with a quintessential historic castle, once accommodating Oliver Cromwell, and a delightful high street littered with market stalls and independent shops. Known as the gateway to the dales, it is the perfect place to take advantage of everything the Dales has to offer whilst still benefiting from the amenities of it's semi-rural location.

On the whole it's very nice but it doesn't excel. Last time we stayed at The Bull in Broughton (a couple of miles out of Skipton) and it's one of the most fantastic pubs you could ever visit. The food is to die for and many of the rooms jacuzzis! The only problem is that it's so good that you often have to book weeks in advance for a room,
