We married here in April 07 and loved every minute. The staff were more than accommodating, the food was fabulous and we are back for New Year 07

Staff at the Castle Hotel, Ruthin are excellent and always helpful. Good all round hotel. Room 310 is a lovely room. Peacocks out side the window. Going back to stay again - excellent 4 star hotel! Excellent stay, very friendly loved it so much, really excellent value for money - food is excellent. Been there twice both times recommended.

I would not stay at Ruthin Castle again. When my friend went to have a look around before booking, she was shown much nicer rooms than those we stayed in. Presumably in the recently renovated part of the hotel (where the wedding guests were staying). £120 for a double room was completely overpriced. In Liverpool, a boutique hotel room costs approximately the same! I have stayed in Travel Lodges which have been of better quality than this hotel.

Stayed at Ruthin Castle in Feb 07, having previously been there 2 years ago and we really enjoyed our stay. Having booked a superior room, on arrival we had to have an unrefurbished room due to maintenance problems. Being the first night away from kids in 2 years, we were disappointed but our rate was reduced and they gave us a lovely bottle of wine at dinner. Our room was 4 poster, large and well heated. Dinner was wonderful and the service was great. The French manager made everyone feel very special and was also on top form at breakfast. The very young staff were also very professional.

<br/>All in all, after a shaky start we had a great stay, although we are obsessed with Castles, I also work in one. I would thoroughly recommend the place and after all the refurbishment is finished it will be worth another visit.

Chose Ruthin Castle based upon their website. I have to say, we expected a much higher standard than in fact exists.

Our bedroom was "functional" only. The decor was generally poor with mould visible on the ceiling. The bathroom fixtures and fittings were again very old and poor, though the taps worked! The room came complete with clanging central heating radiator (old style, of course).

In general, the housekeeping was sloppy. While towels were neatly turned out each day, cobwebs were left hanging in the room. On the last day, we were invaded by flies; perhaps the spiders are left intentionally as a "home guard". The scale of the invasion was such however that we provided reinforcements for any spider brigades present and set about swatting at least 14 flies!

The Hotel encourage wedding parties. While accepting that this is a commercial reality, it was unfortunate that the particular wedding party during our stay seemed intent simply on getting drunk. As a result, they took over the Hotel completely, even managing to set off the fire alarm around midnight.

Breakfast was standard fare with a cooked buffet available. It seems everybody was expected to make use of that. If the cooked offering was not to your taste, the options were limited. No yogurts were available and some of the sliced fruit seemed to be sourced from tins! The staff were efficient however.

We had dinner one evening which was good. There was a choice between a set Menu du Jour and A La Carte. This offered a good choice. This was probably the highlight of the stay.
