“21st century GULAG - avoid at all cost ”

I phoned and booked a bed in a dormitory and paid £90 in full. 30 minutes later, the owner emailed confirming my booking but stated that I should advise him if I snore badly. I replied to advise I do snore but not badly because it had never concerned anyone before.

This started a tirade of abusive emails with following statements;

'I do not like the thought of a room full of guys having to suffer you snoring for a night ...'

'I offered you a room on your own which you declined because it was expensive and you have gone for the cheapest option KNOWING in advance that this may cause concern for others and this is not very thoughtful of others Jake.'

'Even a twin room – which was offered - with one other person would have been less people disturbed'

'I am not about to have you ruin my Sunday afternoon with your petulant attitude.'

And when I suggested perhaps I should cancel my booking in order not to inconvenience him, he referred me to the cancellation policy and stated;

'I will not enter into any further dialogue with you concerning this.'

To date, he says he has refunded me £60 and kept £30 as per his cancellation policy. My credit card company advise he has taken £90 but no refund as yet.

I though I was talking to a hotelier not a little short guy with a tache!

Now I know why sensible people go overseas for a break.

Avoid at all costs or go at your peril!
