FiStanley's review of Travelodge

“If you want a good nights sleep then its not for you!! ”

Originally I was hesitant in booking up with Travelodge having had a bad experience in a Travelodge in Liverpool but everyone deserves a second chance.

This one in Wellington was new and next to a Brewers Fayre. On arriving early evening my wife went in to book the family in grab the key and find somewhere to eat. She was gone a while and came back saying it would be funny if it wasnt true. The attendant was new, left on his own and was clearly untrained but doing the best he could. My wife asked the obvious questions all families ask when arriving, how long do they serve food until next door and whats the food like? No idea was the reply. Im sure he will be asked more difficult questions. It was very busy and as they share the car parking with each other, there was no where for the Travelodge patrons to park!

We went else where saw family and arrived back at 22:20. The 24hr reception was no where to be seen. Maybe he decided to quit on his 1st day. We all went up to our room to settle down for the night. Good clean very basic room but 1 major problem. 1 towel for a family is a huge oversight. Again these are basics getting wrong at a new Travelodge. We couldnt get any more as the reception was still unattended some time later.

Once in bed we were kept awake most of the night with the door banging to the stairway. Now this isnt rocket science. Dont have family rooms near busy areas as this noise will keep them awake. Family rooms are called family room because you have children who are alert to a drop of a pin at times. Also locating family rooms next to a stairway or lifts is also a bad idea especially the big heavy door entering the hallway that bangs shut everytime. couple this with hearing everyone coming in and out, up and down the stairway and lift, banging the door everytime we had little sleep.

Morning soon came round with our alarm clock of the banging door again but this time by the cleaners. Wow someone does work here I thought everyone had quit. We packed made our way downstairs to complain about the towel and door incidents but surprise, surprise no one could be found. Maybe the people in charge were interviewing more applicants for the role of receptionist. Good luck who ever they are and I hope the get better training and at the very least budded up with someone for at least a day or two to be shown the way things work.

Now considering there is a pub next door they are both as businesses missing a big trick here which Premier Inn havent. Why not work together. The pub offers breakfast to the travelodge customers and Travelodge get to advertise this as part of their deals for and extra price as most customers would be very grateful for this included within their room price rather than trying to find somewhere else to eat.

Will not be visiting a Travelodge again as from now on it will be Premier Inn as they have door closers on their doors with family rooms away from high pedestrian traffic areas with adequate amount of towels for 4 people, yes they give you a towel per person. Premier Inn didnt think this was rocket science either. Also their Inns are linked to the pubs next door so you get breakfast, tea etc for a slighty extra price.
