Arrived at hotel, Bay Carlton, Great Yarmouth to find major refurbishment taking place - bar, guest lounge & tv lounge closed. Builders sawing, hammering etc from 8am everyday! Carpets ripped up and not replaced for the duration of our stay. Extensive program of painting taking place at same time filling hotel's communal areas, reception, lobby etc with the choking smell of paint. Forced to sit in hotel lobby area, if you could find a seat (only approx. 40 for around 200 guests)in the freezing cold as front doors wedged open with fire extinguishers to try to get rid of the paint fumes. Felt ill for most of the week. Complained to Management who passed the buck to Head Office.
It would have been nice if Shearing had let us know about dissruption in advance. Bloody awful holiday & will be writting a firm letter of complaint to Shearings Head Office.
