I picked up These Trespasses at horror convention sometime last year. I get a lot of books and this one finally made it to the top of the stack. Man, I should have read it sooner.
The basic premise here is that aliens have landed in middle America and are slowly assimilating humans. The military seems to have taken a hands off approach and those who are within the impacted area are treated more like refugees or illegal aliens (vague pun intended) than citizens.
What makes this story exceptional for the horror/sci-fi crowd are the characters. I read a lot of books and most horror books are solely plot driven. These Trespasses has a great plot with excellent characters the reader can identify with and root for!
