I am studying modern Hebrew from Canada because I find Hebrew beautiful and interesting. Studying Hebrew has also deepened my interest in Judaism and Israeli history. I have really enjoyed the Hebrew online. I am starting to have some very basic conversations with an Israeli friend. The eTeacher resources have been great. “eTeacher Hebrew programme is a very efficient and enjoyable way of learning. I wish writing Hebrew were not so difficult for me, as I find it slows me down very much and I am happy just only to speak Hebrew. I love my classes, my colleagues and my teacher, Orna! It is a special moment in my week when I can be with them and learn Hebrew. It is like bringing them to my home. I work with computer technology, as SAP PP consultant, so never had any real issue with the environment, and it seems to have a very solid base. I am currently enrolled in their course. I too was searching for a Biblical Hebrew course online. While I am glad to be learning Hebrew, to be honest with someone trying to decide whether or not to enrol, I will agree with reviewer who says that you don't get what you think you see advertised, or what their sales reps tell you. This is a great site for anyone wanting to learn a language by distance education. I have been taking the Biblical Hebrew courses for just over a year now and have found the whole experience excellent. Their courses are well-designed and taught by very competent teachers. The teachers are very passionate about making sure I learned not just how to read, but understand the grammatical components of the language as well. All sales, no customer support. Never received any certificate from "Hebrew University of Jerusalem" or "Ministry of Education of Israel" as promised in sales literature. Teacher was very nice, experienced. Unfortunately, in signing up for the second series of classes, was lumped in with students from all different levels from all over the world, (was supposed to be a class for people with English as a first language), teacher spoke almost no English, kept changing class times ... it was a... I already wrote an email to that address two weeks ago and was promised someone would be in touch.I am always promised "someone will be in touch". Doesn't happen. I stand by my review. I don't use the "F word" (fraud) lightly. In researching on the Internet I find I am not alone.
In addition, yesterday I received a response to my inquiry with Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with whom you claim to have the exclusive online course.
THEY NEVER HEARD OF ETEACHERGROUP.COM AND HAVE NO AFFILIATION WHATSOEVER.
My next contact will be the Ministry of Education.

This morning I heard from someone in a new department at eTeacherGroup asking if my issues had been resolved and asking me to take down my review.
While I am now happy with the class that was eventually made available to me, and I did indeed receive my completion certificate - the intense effort and stress involved in arriving at a solution was not worth it.
I am enjoying and completing my class because I have made investments - monetary, time, learning commitment - and I will see it to a conclusion. I will think long and hard before I come back for a third round.
The education part is excellent - the business and customer relations part obviously still needs continued attention and improvement. Look at the dates between my complaint and the contact from the new department and you'll see why I'm not removing or rescinding my original comment.
I hope they really do improve customer support and service. I'm just sorry that it took a public internet review to receive their attention. There is a complete disconnect between their departments. Sorry, but I do not trust the business side. I will be taking my third series from another company.

Hey man, thanks for the review. I was wondering if this was just another internet SCAM - it's hard to know who to trust these days....
But from what you wrote here I see it's not. Today I left my info on their website and a nice guy called me 2 hours later from Israel to explain about their courses and evaluate my Hebrew level. Very professional indeed.
My course will start in 1 month, I'm very excited and ready to start. Will update here if anything happens.

We are very much appreciative of your comments. I promise you that we will carefully consider your feedback and see where we will need to improve. We are very happy to have as a student and we encourage you to communicate openly with us so that, if there were any mistakes on our part we would have the opportunity to correct them in the spirit of friendship and mutual learning.
I personally cannot agree with you on several of your statements. By the way it sounds like you were rating eTeacher Biblical Hebrew and not eTeacher Modern Hebrew course which is the course that is being rated on this site (unless I am mistaken).
Especially, on the issue of pronunciation I can assure you as a scholar of ancient literature that things are not as simple as they may appear at the moment. Please, allow me to explain.
Native Hebrew speaker may or may not be better on Biblical Hebrew pronunciation simply because Biblical Hebrew is very different from Ancient Hebrew. There are in fact a wide variety of Ancient Hebrew pronunciations. While we know how to pounce things in Modern Hebrew that is not always the case in Biblical Hebrew.
I think one of the most valuable advices you gave in your review is this: if you are not able to afford the course as spread by us in broken-down payments – don’t take it now. I agree.
Wait. Save up actively and then invest in something you will never regret when you are done.
You know I have seen many people regret their investments in things like relationships and financial markets, but I am yet to meet one person who regretted his or her investment into a foreign language.
Please, write us and I will help you to get a native speaker for your Hebrew class if you prefer you have one. It’s not a problem!
