You informed me that my policy was due for renewal on the DAY BEFORE it became due. This was your first communication and you appear to have assumed automatically that I would renew it without question. I hadn't heard of dialdirect until using a price comparison website, however they came out second cheapest after taking into account arrangement fees, but included Home Emergency Cover which I felt was well worth the extra. The application was easy, and checking once moved over from the comparison site was also easy. “Emergency Boiler Repair”

Had a problem with my boiler where the Central Heating was working OK, but there wasn't any domestic hot water. I remembered that my Dial Direct (DD) Home Insurance had cover for boiler emergencies and rang the special number on the DD website. I was delighted with the response by DD personnel. The deadline for me to send my letter of no claims has not yet passed, yet I still received a letter advising me that my no claims discount was being cancelled because I had not sent the proof of no claims (which, incidentally I had). I wasn't worried that my communication had crossed theirs, I just felt that the tone was not at all customer focused given that I was well within the deadline for submission of the proof of no claims. “Auto-Renewing without sending Home Renewal Quote”

Dial Direct appears to have taken over ClickInsure who were my insurer last year. Without my permission Dial Direct are in process of deducting several hundred pounds from my bank account. The ClickInsure 0800 number is out of service and there is no where on Dial Directs website to advise them in writing that I did not wish them to Plunder my bank account. This company charges for absolutely everything. Somebody obtained my card details while I was abroad so my card details changed, to be honest I forgot about my Dial direct account when alerting companies about my change in details. I never received a letter from Dial direct to tell me about the failure to receive the money so they decided to cancel the direct debit. “unreasonable charges from unsreasonable clauses”

Direct Dial hide in the small print that they automatically renew after 1 year (try Aviva - there you have to opt in to automatic renewal like you would expect from a legitimate company!). After 1 year My renewal failed because I had a different date on my new debit card. There was no contact prior to attempting to renew the policy where I could have told them about this. I would not recommend Dial Direct. I have used this company to renew my house/contents insurance for the past few years and all seemed ok until I hit a problem and needed to make a claim. Dial Direct passed me on to the insurer who then passed me on to another insurer - you get the picture! You don't really know who you are insured with until you have a problem. “Charges for everything... this is how they turn a profit.”

They charge as soon as you've signed up with them: if you don't return your signed policy document within 14 days, £15 right away. They also autorenew the policy without asking you. So, you then have to pay a cancellation fee (£10-£45) to get out of this new policy, which you didn't ask for. I've just renewed elsewhere at a 1/3 of what they were charging. … Read Full Review

“Appalling customer service”

This company sent an appalling rude letter to my 89 year old mother when my sister's card was rejected when paying for my mother's home insurance. Dialdirect had a made a mistake and used an old number. They gave us a premium rate number to ring to sort their mistake out and then kept us hanging on, and they wouldn't escalate my complaint on the phone but made me use snailmail. DISGUSTING IS HOW I WOULD DESCRIBE DIAL DIRECT, for sending me a renewel of £408. i have just gone toa comparison site and with one of the top insurers with all the trimmings for £185.. Had Home Insurance for 1 year with Dial Direct. Contacted them twice within the 3 weeks before renewal, telling them we were not needing to renew the policy. They then went ahead and renewed the policy anyway! Having spoke to them today, they expect me to pay nearly £70 to cancel a policy that was only £80 in the first place! No chance! Luckily they only have my card details and not my account details, so have spoken to my bank and refused any payments to these conmen. Have phoned them back… Read Full Review

Report them to the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority). This seems to be their modus operandi - get your card details and then keep putting charges through each year - even when you tell them that you do not want to renew.

I took out a insurance policy with dial direct, never again. I recieved by email an 80 page document of t&cs to read and wanted me to sign a loan agreement. I felt like I was signing a finance deal not an £8 A month home insurance. I didnt sign the agreement phoned them and said I wanted to cancal, they said that I would have to pay £35 but they didnt put this on the loan agreement and the policy was £87 for the year!. “Home Insurance”

Took out this insurance online but when I got the insurance details, buried away on page 10 was an endorsement that was impractical to comply with. I immediately telephoned to cancel the insurance and was told it would cost me £35. My phone call was within 12 hours of taking out the insurance and 12 days before it was due to start.
