We recently lost a garden wall, fence, and mature hedge in storm-force winds (60+ mph).
Our AXA policy specifically states that garden walls, fences, and hedges are covered. Or so we thought...
Oh no, it wasn't the storm force winds that blew everything down - it was "wear and tear", and would have fallen over anyway.
AXA say talk to the (non-Chartered) "surveyor", and the "surveyor" says talk to AXA.
I have an independant Structural Engineer's report into the condition of the wall and fence, confirming that they were both in excellent health - but still AXA don't want to know.
As for the hedge? Wear and tear? Really?
AXA, more excuses than you can shake a stick at - take your money, and then dodge their contractual responsibility.
Appalling.

i work for AXA HOME INSURANCE CLAIMS and nearly every policy we hold excludes storm damage to gates, fences and hedges. it is clear in the policy wording.
