“It is 2021, and the Acoustic Solutions DS 633 sounds great”

★★★★★

Acoustic Solutions DS 633 - a classic subwoofer/amp delivering incredible 5.1. home theatre sound. Got this back in 2003, and kept it in the living room connected mainly to the CD player and using the optical input with a Chromecast audio device, which enables uncompressed music playback in high resolution (pretty rare and costs a packet these days to find a Chromecast audio dongle, get one if you can, brilliant audio). I never used satellite speakers that came with them, but instead, use tallboy speakers in a 5.1 configuration. These speakers have excellent headroom, no hissing, no buzzing, just clean sound. The subwoofer-amp has no hiss either (ensure that power supply is not shared with other devices on the wall outlet). The onboard decoders in the DS 633 are simply excellent, even compared to modern AV Receivers, they really are sensational in use, surpassing high brand products costing thousands of pounds. The decoders really sparkle and decode Dolby Digital AC3, DTS surround sound and Dolby Pro Logic sound (and stereo) with superb results. Watching a movie in 5.1 is simply fantastic, the depth, the clarity, and precision of the sound being able to pinpoint its movement, the exacting detail and vibrancy produced have got to be heard to be believed. Playing games in 5.1 through via the optical cable really delivers an immersive experience, playing Gears of War was simply amazing. Listening to high-resolution music that is uncompressed is detailed and sharp, with nuances of the orchestral movement showing contrasts and depth and clear separation of instruments. If you find one of these on eBay or in flea markets, grab this incredible sounding system, you will not be disappointed. This item is priceless. Seek one out if you can and experience the pure sound like never before.

Absolutely excellent unit, well worth the money, and excellent sound reproduction, have had an Acoustic Solutions DS 633 installed for a few years and still going strong
highly recommended.
ive used ceiling installed speakers which make the sound even better as the speakers are not noticable at all, but that was our choice.

Well I unpacked this with excitment after reading the reviews for it's sister suround system (Acoustic Solutions DS533) the main reason I bought this one instead of the DS533 was because I did not really need the stands and I thought the extra power (100w instead of 70w) would be nice.

Well the system does sound good with loads of bass...BUT I have a constant buzz coming from the sub that is just too annoying to put up with. So tomorrow it's going back in exchange for the DS533 I just hope that one does not have this bug..

Damn shame though as I think this would be a great system if this noisy sub bug (take note acoustic soloutions) was sorted...

After reading you review and some of the other reviews on here, I was quite worried to unpack my DS633, which I'd bought from Argos just before christmas (2004).
But I can happily say that my DS633 is near perfect.
The sub does not hum, and there is only a small amount of white noise coming from the speakers during the quiet moments.
So I can only say that I highly reccommend the Acoustic Solutions DS633.

“Acoustic Solutions DS 633 Review: I recently...”

★★★★★

Acoustic Solutions DS 633 Review: I recently purchased a 70W home cinema dolby system from Tchibo, and to be quite frank, it was rubbish. The speakers themselves looked ok but they only had a Prologic 2 decoder, and had to be hooked to a dvd player with inbuilt decoder. So I decided to move on to these from Argos. I was originally going to get the DS833 Beach ones, which are 105 W, these are 100W and I couldn't be happier with them. What do you get for £80?
>5x 15W Satellites
1X 25W Subwoofer
1X AUX Cable
1X Coaxial cable.
The box weights 11.5KG so you'll need a car to collect them from argos or Dixons.

The speakers sound fantastic, have inbuilt Dolby 5.1, Prologic II and DTS decoders. They also contain Optical, Coaxial digital connections, and 2 Aux connections for a TV, VCR or cd player etc.
The speakers themselves sound brilliant, with 5 sound settings or normal, the speakers can detect what source sound to use eg DTS or prologic, so making minimal effort from the user.
100W means a fair volume level, the DS 633 adjust from 00 - 40, with 14 being more than enough for me! Distorting effects occur at 37, but you will never need to go that high.

Overall a great setup! Go get a set before they sell out, if you have any questions either email me [email protected] subject: DS633 Speakers, or you can post here.

“Acoustic Solutions DS 633 Review: ”

Acoustic Solutions DS 633 Review:
For many years I have had a dolby pro-logic television and thought that it had fairly decent sound, but I felt there was something lacking in the sound quality. So I went and bought my first home cinema system out of Argos, the Acoustic Solutions DS633 for £79.99.
Out of the box you get everything you need a co-axial cable a set of AV leads for connecting sky/video etc and fairly decent lengths of speaker cable, set up is a piece of cake all the speakers and speaker terminals are colour coded so you can't go wrong!!!.

Now the system itself is very nice looking and does not look or feel cheap or nasty, the 5 satellite speakers are fairly compact and have a nice matt silver finish and the sub-woofer is a nice size and does not dominate or look intrusive in my living room (which keeps the wife happy!!!). The amp-subwoofer has 2 aux inputs a co-axial input and an optical input. It has 4 surround modes stereo, pro-logic,5.1 and dts. It also has 5 preset sounds rock, pop, dance etc but I find the classic setting sounds best-the rest sound artificial. All the speakers can be adjusted individually to suit your seating position. Strangely though the remote control sensor is built into the centre speaker, most other systems this is on the amp-subwoofer which adds another unnecessary cable connection from your centre speaker.

After set up I tried a DVD and WOW- AWSOME- what a difference to pro-logic, sound effects were thrown all about my living room through all 5 satellite speakers and the sub woofer enhances the action even more with bass which literally shakes the house!!!!. I also have my sky hooked up and even movies in pro-logic through the DS633 sound even better than my tv. I also play music cds and they even sound great. DONT be put off by the 100watts of power(5x15w satellites 25w sub) this is more than ample power the volume goes up to 40 but I never have it above 25 and even that is ear bursting!!.

There are a couple of minor niggles but nothing drastic, when you switch the power off and back on to use again the volume comes on at 17 which does not go down well at night when the kids are in bed so make sure your source component is switched off before switching the amp on. Also on quiet scenes (more so vid/sky) there is a hissing from all the speakers but not enough to distract you from the viewing pleasure unless you are sitting right next to a speaker.
But over all what more do you want if you are on a budget or like me this is your first experience of 5.1 and just want to see what all the hype is about without bursting the bank.SO - £80 ARGOS- GO GET ONE, you won't be dissapointed.
Nonsense. Bought one today and taking it back tomorrow. I sat over 10 feet away from the subwoofer. Regardless of which input source I used the loud hum from it is clearly audible on all but action scenes with volume set for comfortable listening.

My system has no buzz from the sub, but my led display keeps jumping around, and is sometimes impossible to know what function your using, and what level my speakers are at. Has anyone else had this problem? other than that exelent system, 8/10. without display problem it would have been 10/10

SORRY To everyone who has had problems with this system, trust me my system would be back in a heartbeat if it was faulty (and I have taken many a thing back!!!) If it was not to my expectations!!!! I am only giving an honest report on my system and mine works fine and does not have a noisy subwoofer.

I too had a bad hum from the sub. Unbareable when the system is not in use. And annoying when watching a movie that isn't action packed. Was thinking of replacing with another but after reading this review I'm going to get my money back. Good system if they can sort out the humming.

Bought the DS633 and intolerable hum from subwoofer also. Pity because otherwise it was a good setup for the money, just had to take it back.

Did do and had same problem. Two work colleagues got 1 from a different supplier and also had same problem. Therefore I can have any faith in a product that has the same 'fault' as you call it on 4 different systems

Sorry to hear about your faulty sub-woofer Steve but you can't really call my review nonsense as the one I have works perfectly fine -why don't you get a replacement and see if you still have the same problem it may be a dodgy batch!!!!

Yeah I have to agree with steve 68, wish I had seen this review before buying. It's being put in the box as we speak to be returned. Unbeliveably bad humming from sub-woofer unless you have the volume at wall shaking level. Good set up otherwise but very very dissapointed.

I bought my parents a DS 633 system several years ago but on visiting this Christmas, I discovered that the remote control is dead. Has anyone any idea why this might be and where I could obtain a replacement? I have changed the batteries! Many thanks
