“Holiday cancelled at a weeks notice!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 17/10/2015

Be very careful when booking as they cancelled my holiday at a weeks notice. Only offering me another park over 5 hours drive away, a refund or another holiday but not in the summer holidays!! Doesn’t help me when my children of 5, 6 and 9 are in tears as they are no longer going on holiday next week!! And its too late to book anywhere else. Bad management, wont be booking another Haven Holiday !!!

“Caravan not as described, Staff unwelcoming”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 21/08/2014

My family was at Combe haven,Hastings from15-18th.August and our experience was not a good one. First we were given a key to a caravan with no number,it took us 30 minutes in the rain looking for our allocated caravan,we finally found a caravan we assumed to be our caravan according to number on the map we were given but the caravan says no is different to allocated caravan number we have key for. I called reception and they say it's right caravan, one of the staff we met even called reception they still insisted its our caravan. We tried the key did not open door, I went back to reception,I was given a new key to open the same caravan that has no7 on it with explanation that sometimes the numbers differ. It took almost 2hours with the assistance of maintain acne team to find a key to open this door by this time the kids were hungry wet and cold. Inside of caravan which is a deluxe that states sleeps 6-8 people was not as described the caravan looks deserted, very cold, no dining table. TV did not work, I have to call maintenance. My daughter had acute hike swimming because there was a broken bottle in pool, no staff came to assist, swimming pool was not emptied to remove bottles,I went to speak to the guy in charge of swimming pool and he was questioning me as if I am lying after I was told the incident has been reported to him?I find his behaviour rude and discriminatory. I felt like Conbe Hastings is not for black people and was very unhappy I took my family there, my kids were so looking forward to it, I was taken them out to the beach and town centre for a more enjoyable experience. My daughter forgot her glasses at the swimming reception and no one turned it in. For me Combe havens is overpriced, have unwelcoming, unfriendly staff and are discriminatory.

“First timers in Sussex ”

★★★★☆

written by Tallymanredditch on 28/06/2014

This was the first time that we had ventured outside the usual destinations of Devon Somerset and Cornwall and was pleasantly surprised . Combe Haven was a excellent site with friendly and efficient staff who had been well trained in looking after holiday makers. Trips to Eastbourne Camber Sands and Battle were the highlights of the five day holiday with Brighton the only disappointment . Parking fees min £10 for 4hrs the Pier that is need of refurbishment the only redeeming feature was the Laines where we had a very good Italian meal at Fat Leos and the chance for my sister to visit coccywoccydodar. Hastings and St Lenards are close to the camp site and have everything in the way of shops and food outlets you could want although the hotels and boarding houses could do with some refurbishment . Coming from the Midlands this not a area we would normally pick for our holiday destination but we will for the future. The only criticism I would make of the site was the absence of a Fish and Chip shop, that we have had on other Haven sites.

Just to add our holiday was booked through disabled directory holidays who were horrified when I rang and let them know our experience and they were appalled when I explained what had happened and are going to support us in a full and comprehensive complaint. Disabled directory are a very supportive agency and were grateful I had informed them of our experience

written by unhappycombehaven on 02/04/2013

march 29 to april 1st 2013 very very cold damp smelly surposed to be superior caravan, carbon monoxide alarm went off so could not have heating on we froze in our beds never ever been so cold, offered a dirty smelly mobility caravan with wee all over bathroom floor thick yellow mucas all around the toilet two full up bins dirty sticky work tops, the smell of upset tummy was so bad my daughter was heaving, all eletric went off for 20 minuets lucky no one was in shower, burnt upholstery, blood stains on seating area,no frying pan, no oven trays, no light in fridge,no remote for tv, damp cold smelly bedding, all this with in 24 hours, so up set this should of been a family gathering for my daughters 30 birthday and my grandsons 4th birthday never slept the hold night offered another caravan then to then be told they gave it to someone else becouse they complained before us ? and that they now only had the mobility caravan to offer us but had just said it was unsuitable as the heating wasent any good and there was only single beds so now all of a sudden its fine?I said enough is enough gave them the keys and left I would not recommend this holiday park to any one unless you have heating in all rooms or you will freeze in your beds nd make sure you are on the top of the hill as there is a very steep hill up to climb no good for older people or mums pushing prams

written by gillyt1957 on 05/09/2012

My wife and i have been going to combe haven for the last 6 years and in fact haven camps all over the country for the last 20 years and we wouldnt go anywhere else. the staff at combe haven are always polite and very helpful. And if for any reason there has ever been a problem its always been solved profesionally and promptly. Every member work hard and always gives the holidaymaker 100%.So to all haven staff at every camp A VERY BIG WELL DONE. And just for the record we are due for another combe haven holiday at the end of this month. BRING IT ON.

“I now call it Hated, not Haven!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by holidaymummy on 03/09/2012

Used to enjoy Haven as a kid so decided to go back for a weekend a few years ago (review better late than never!) Hated it because i had booked a chalet/house but when we got there they fobbed us off with a bungalow. They were fully booked that weekend so couldnt move to other accomodation. Hated the bungalow as it was firstly down a ditch so it was difficult for the buggy and baby and also as the bungalow was at edge of the park, it was by hedgerow so got fox poo by patio doors and the birds would wake us up at 4am. TV very dated so no reception and had to buy a dvd to entertain the kids. The car park by the bungalows want big enough to accomodate all the cars and there would be parking space wars between the guests! Found people there very unfriendly. The pub was nice though and food ok. We were not informed at time of booking that the new pool and slide had not been completed so children were very disappointed. Had to use temporary cold changing rooms for existing pool.

“The worst Haven site”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Suekay on 15/08/2012

I am writing this review whilst still on the site which shows how awful it is. On arriving at our caravan I noticed a musty smell but thought it would go on opening the windows. The door had bird muck all over it and the surfaces inside the caravan were dirty. I unpacked, cleaned all the surfaces (i had flash wipes)then realised we had no water. Rang reception and they sent a guy round to turn on the water. When he had gone I had a shower and noticed the bedroom carpet was soaking wet, when I checked the other carpets they too were soaking. Reception offered towels to put down and an offer to dry them the next day. But by this time I'd found mould on two of the bedrooms curtains and on the main bedroom wall so asked to be moved to another caravan. We were downgraded to a smaller caravan( all they had) but it was better than being in a smelly mouldy caravan. The next day we saw someone else moving into that awful caravan but the day after that they had moved out too. I really don't know what Haven are playing at by expecting people to pay a lot of money to stay in these awful caravans. Prestatyn and Pwllheli had lovely clean caravans. Also the entertainment in the evenings is dire, truly awful. No decent groups or singers just 'family entertainment' ie tacky games to win a bottle of pomagne with lots of screaming people. You can't get a decent meal after 9pm as they stop serving. I could go on and on really. Hastings was nice and I wish I'd stated there in a nice clean little hotel , actually I will next time. Be warned, don't stay here and read reviews before you book, I wish I had.

“Exceeded expectations”

★★★★☆

written by on 12/04/2012

To be honest we expected the worst when we booked and were ready for an arguement about the condition of the caravan, but it was fine. The caravan was clean, had a new fridge and fairly new microwave. It didn't have a grill pan but a new one was delivered to us within an hour or 2 of reporting it. The Funstars were excellent - I have been to Haven camps before where maybe 1 or 2 join the kids on the dancefloor occasionally , but here they were out in force every night leading the dances and were always enthusiastic when talking to the children. The pool was a little chilly as the doors were opened to give access to the water slide. The food was resonably priced and the staff everywhere were excellent - friendly and helpful.

“Combe Haven - Such a disappointment.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 29/10/2011

The caravan was dated and filthy. We have two young children, so I brought some basic cleaning things with us, but it was beyond that. There was dust everywhere, slime and mold in the shower, sticky dirty floors, stained carpets and sofa. The outside light wasn't working (so came back from dinner in the dark), light over dining table not working, shower not working properly, broken handle on fridge door. Our bedding was used, smelt like fried food. Got the spare duvet out from the wardrobe floor - it had blood on it. Called security (as the reception closes at 6pm), they delivered two single duvets, but only one had a cover on. They didn't have anything else. After a terrible nights sleep I spoke to reception. They were very kind and offered to clean it again and take care of the maintenance issues. I discussed leaving, but thought it only fair to give them a chance to put it right. They had no other caravans to offer us at that time. She asked us to give her the day to sort it out. Went to the kids club, which was poor. The staff were friendly enough (although seemed understaffed), but the set up was disorganised and again the room was dirty. We ate at the Mash and Barrel the night we arrived. It's open plan so very loud. There were three members of staff behind the bar taking food and drink orders for the whole restaurant. Waited 20 minutes to place order, then 35 minutes for food to arrive. It was over priced for what we got. we didn't go swimming as we didn't get time so can't comment on the facility. I looked through the windows..it looked busy. The outdoor pool was only open a couple hours a day becuase the it's off peak. The seagulls seemed to enjoy it though! At one point there was 8 of them swimming around in it, eating a leftover sandwich. After kids club we went back to the caravan to see that they had changed the shower thermostat and both lights. However the place was still dirty and the fridge handle hadn't been done. The bedding had been changed though. I called reception to check that they were coming back to clean, but was told they had already been! At that point they offered us another caravan, but it wouldn't be ready until 3. We packed up all our things and decided to go to the outside play area to let the kids burn off energy. Not surprisingly, it was a nightmare. I'll post pictures as it's unbelivable. Three pieces of dangerously broken equiptment - not fenced off. Screws poking out of bits of wood. Not safe and the last straw. We left and checked out less than 24 hours after arriving. To thier credit, we requested a refund and they agreed without quibble. Hopefully that will happen!

“needs improving”

★★★☆☆

written by on 10/06/2011

Have just come back from combe haven, when we arrived check in was quick but when we got to our caravan we found it not up to standards. The worst thing was the smell, we are not sure what it was but smelt musty and damp and wasn't pleasant. The caravan was dirty previous people's bed sheets still on hair and dust everywhere then at 5 pm cleaners arrived, they hadn't been and that's why it was in that state although it should have been cleaned before 4 pm when we could check in. Our toddler enjoyed the break he liked the swimming, character's, playground etc but we found there could of been a bit more to do. Mash and barrel restaurant wasn't good at all powdered eggs for breakfast which were disgusting, sons spaghetti bolagnase was watery and tinned so was def not worth 5 pounds, over priced for low standard food. Hastings old town was good trip out. Swimming was busy and cramped but water was warm and seemed clean didn't go in outside pool as too cold. Caravan also is cold at night and morning. Was all a but dated and old, caravans need updating and a good clean.

“As an owner of a 2009 mobile at combe haven we have...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 04/05/2011

As an owner of a 2009 mobile at combe haven we have worse problems than even the worse review here, the van was left dirty and uncleaned every time we returned to it, broken fittings not mended even after six months of kicking management. Constant complaining to them does not get you anywhere. We are refusing to pay site fees as they are not fullfilling their duties. We have been told that thirty percent of owners have left and everyone we have spoken to in normandy court and saxony court wants to leave too. However many are caught up in the sites financial package and would leave with negative equity. You cannot move the van on site. They will only buy it back at the lowest glasses trade price after a lot of pushing. In total we paid about 40,000 pounds and have been offered 11,000 pounds. If you try to sell privately, they rip down the signs. We hate it there so much we have walked out and given back the keys. You are totally trapped after you have bought it as they only want to sublet your van, even though they admittted one family in ten will wreck it. We confirm that as it happened to us several times in one season.

I am glad I did not read the reviews before I went. I think most people must have gone to a different park to the one I experienced! Staff were pleasant, helpful and polite without exception, food in the Mash and Barell was very good and reasonable.Accomodation clean and pleasant. Its a big park, and its easy to get lost, but they do give you a little map when you arrive, and there is a big map on site. The children who are five and nine, say they enjoyed Haven more that Disneyland! The only criticism I would make is that there should be more toilets in the main entertainment area! The "fun stars" were amazing. Good tempered, patient and untiring. The kids cant wait to go back, and though I did not think holiday camps were my thing, I would be more than happy to take them!

“I visited combe havenwhen i was 11 and it was my first...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jadecrwfrd21 on 08/04/2011

I visited combe havenwhen i was 11 and it was my first family holiday too.
I had the time of my life and really enkpyed our week there with my parents and three siblings.
Ever since 2011 my mum and dad have revisited every year and i returned there when i was 14 for a 4 night stay and again was fantastic and had a great time.
Then in 2008 bearing in mind my family visit each year i booked a weeks holiday with my ex-partner and his mum.
A week and a half before outr holiday i split from my ex and had a reall tough time and to make it worse my gran died the same day so i was distraught.
The following day after the two dramas i decided it wasnt wise i still go on this holiday as id be going alone and it was too short notice to arrange for someone else to take this holiday instead.
I phoned haven holidays and explained my situation and i must say i was shocked on there attitude towards myself and they claimed that i couldnt cancel and i wasnt entitled to get any money back. We had payed just under £600.00 and this was payed in full i didnt even leave a deposit i booked straight away.
They also claimed tht i never payed a cancellation fee however when ringing aand booking this holiday they never offered a cancellation fee to be put in place. They said that no one can do anything they werent even sorry on my loss and i am disgusted with the way haven treat these issuse which am sure alot of other holiday makers have been in the same position as me.

I will never ever use this holiday patk again and im gutted they never even offered a refund.

“When we first got to haven after travelling 6 hours we...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/03/2011

When we first got to haven after travelling 6 hours we checked in fast and we were impressed, we found it hard to find the caravan in the first place and when we went in it was disgusting, the fridge was in the middle of the floor, no bed linen, no utensils in the kitchen and the place smelt horrible. We went back to change caravan as well as 3 other families which they did quickly.
Our second caravan was clean so we were satisfied until one of the lights from the bathroom fell to the floor but we give them the benefit of the doubt and did not complain. When outside started to go dark we felt the cold bearing in mind we put the fire on as soon as we walked in because it was chilly, but it started to get colder and colder for the whole weekend we kept the fire on but it was no use, we had to sleep next the fire at night which was uncomfortable, but not much better than the actual beds.
The entertainment was good, ABBA tribute band were on but they were stuffed into a corner to play as there was a dancing competition on all weekend in the main area. The only other thing to do was karaoke which the staff members were good. The inside pool was too hot and the outdoor pool was not open as it was March.
They defiantly need to improve the caravans because on all the other haven holidays we have been to there was always been radiators in the bedrooms, the staff were brilliant and the cleanliness of the park was good although we couldn't find the bin
Overall what a waste of money and a waste of a weekend.
