I have had Bupa for two years. My 2 year old fell and hit her head, I took her to the doctor here in The Bahamas she was immediately referred to the ER with a letter of referral for an urgent CT scan. We took her straight away to the ER. When we arrived the admin assistant rang Bupa to discuss our benefits before going ahead with the emergency care.
1- Bupa took three attempts of phone calls before they answered the phone.
2- The Bupa representative said that the CT scan was not covered on our policy
3- The Bupa representative said that the doctors fee would not be covered or the ER visit, even with the doctors referral letter.
Luckily I was in the room at the time of these phone calls and asked the admin assistant if I could speak to the representative, which she allowed.
The Bupa representative immediately tried to back peddle and blamed the admin assistant for not making the situation clear to him!!! The CT scan was in fact covered. He had no idea if the ER visit was covered with a letter of referral! He was unbelievably patronizing and misinformed in an emergency situation. If I wasn't in the room at the time of the calls, we would have been sent away! He contributed to my daughter having to wait an hour before she could be seen! Luckily for Bupa the doctors decided my daughter just needed observation and not a CT scan.
I can't wait to confirm my new medical cover with a different company which happens to be more expensive but I could never trust Bupa with something as serious as our health.
Stay away, pay the extra and go else where.
