Tried Natural Instincts last month and IT IS TERRIBLE!!! Tried it because it's temporary color and I thought it would be gentle. I experienced no burning, itching, or strong odor using it. But while combing out my hair it was horrifying because lots of hair was coming out. And every day since more hair than is normal comes out. It's not breaking off--it's coming out with the roots. This color really damaged my hair. Feel I've lost at least half my hair. Now I hope and pray this shedding will stop and I'll start to see some re-growth. I took the patch test before using it and there were no adverse reactions, so I felt it was safe to proceed. My advice is: Don't take a chance using it!! THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE PERMANENTLY REMOVED FROM THE MARKET--IT'S REALLY TERRIBLE. I'm not one to post reviews, but this stuff needs to be banned.

I have used this product for 4 years to cover my grey. I use the medium brown color. It looks natural and covers well. But it makes my hair dry. I cannot use heat so it’s a lot of work to set it. I have to sleep in an octo-curl that I got on Amazon. Also, the box comes with a tube of conditioner that is just cheap silicone. I always throw it away. The conditioner tube and the color tube are exactly the same size, so it’s easy to switch them. Clairol please stop including the conditioner!

I also have a problem with this hair color. I thought I would try It, as it was ammonia and peroxide free. I liked the fact that it would wash out in 28 shampoos. The color was great light cool brown. After using it twice I noticed my hair shedding and now it has thinned quite a bit. My hair is fine to begin with. I will never buy this again. I'm now afraid to try another brand in case the same happens. What is in this that could cause hair fallout?

Bought this product for first time in December. Really dreadful colour came out much too dark and I left in on for only 15 minutes not 20. My hair is now dry and coarse in texture even though I have used the conditioning cream. I am shampooing everyday to 'fade' the awful colour but with little success. SHALL NOT buy this product again. Will go back to L'Oreal.

Hi Everyone, I have experienced the same problem. I was looking for an Ammonia free hair colour and got this from a drug store. I was excited to use it as it says Natural, I was shocked when I rinsed my hair. My hair became extremely rough and harsh. When I rinsed my hair it started falling out in clumps. I as petrified and depressed as my hair kept falling out. This has never happened with other hair colours. There is something worse in this product that is why my hair kept falling. Ugh!! They are fooling people with words like Natural and Ammonia free. Isn't that disgusting You are very lucky if you are reading this review. Your hair is very precious but, Clairol does not care it is only about money for them. How can they get away with this? They should be Sued!!! They have discontinued this product in the drug store in Vancouver.. and why did they do this? Did they read the comments or did they receive embarrassing phone calls? Shame on you Clairol! I have used Clairol Natural Instincts for many years; however, this year, they changed the box and instructions. Now they instruct o leave the color onf or 20 minutes instead of the regular 10 minutes as before. Well, as an idiot, I did what the instructions said and now I am having a horrid allergic reaction. I have dermatitis in my scalp, forehead and close to my eye. I thought I was getting shingles so I went to the doctor this morning and he confirmed that it was NOT shingles (thank God) but the color I used a couple of days ago: that color was Clairol Natural Instincts in the new box with different instructions. Ladies, avoid any Clairol product; believe me, it isn't worth the pain, discomfort and ugly rashes on the face and scalp along with burning pain. This is was happened; the solution actually burned my scalp! Never again!

For the last year, I've noticed that the coloring is not as good as it used to be. I used to ge a glossy, dark, glow with the dark browns, almost black, but not quite, and now they're very dull, ashy, and wash out easily. I won;t be using Natural Instincts, again. I now have to find something else that works.

I have used this product before with satisfactory results. Now I use it and absolutely no coverage what so ever, I wasted my time. I have light red hair, none of the gray was covered. Very Disappointed. I did not have any styling products on my hair. I also used it on my eyebrows, no coverage there either.

I was happy with the old product because it covered the gray. Why did you change it? This new formula does not cover any gray and the smell it leaves in your hair and scalp after you wash it out is horrible. You lost another customer. I'm looking for another product.

I decided to try Natural Instincts Hair Color on a whim. PLEASE don't try this product. While applying this color I had to open the window as to the ammonia being so strong, but it has literally fried my hair. I have been cutting back on $ due to the decline in our economy but I fear I will need to cut off a huge part of my fried ends.

I've been using Natural Instincts hair color for over 10 years with no problems. I liked the fact that the color only lasted through 28 shampoos and the color of my hair always turned out shiny medium brown and hair was so manageable. Now...after trying the "new" Natural Instincts, I am appalled with the results! The color I originally used is no longer available, so I used a color closest to that color with dreadful results - my hair is now red. I, like so many others, used the "refresher" two weeks later with orange hair and scalp results. Afraid to put more color on my hair, I have turned into a full blown redhead. My latest problem is the condition of my hair - brittle, dry and REALLY FALLING OUT BIG TIME!!! It's so bad that my family and friends are commenting. My scalp is so visible on top that I'm so ashamed to go out (I'm thinking of buying a wig at this point). All I can say is...Clairol, shame, shame, shame on you for dismissing all these legitimate complaints. Wish I would have come here first before trying the new formula.

I recently used the Spiced Tea color on my hair because Clairol had discontinued the color I had used for years and loved. This new color and conditioner is horrible!!!!!! I had beautiful shoulder length reddish blond hair and now I have a head full of frizz and hair breaking off and falling out. I could cry. Worst of all now I have no idea what to use and am afraid to try another product on my hair. I would love to meet the person that made these changes. He surely should be fired.

I have been using Natural Instincts light brown or light ash brown for about 8 years. It used to cover well, and make my hair soft and shiny and the color would last over a month. Now, since the formula was changed and the color refresher was added, it is not the same at all. I used it for the last time two days ago. My hair gets coarse and dry and strands are falling out. I tried the refresher packet once a few years ago and like everyone else, it turned my hair orange, but I noticed it as soon as I started putting it on, so rushed into the shower and rinsed it out quick. It was BRIGHT ORANGE!! I too called Clairol and complained and they had NO explanation or sympathy. The guy I talked to said to just throw the refresher packet away when I buy the color. Also, there are conflicting directions about putting it on wet or dry hair. I've called about that too and the guy told me they made a mistake in the directions and you ARE suppose to wet your hair. OK, if they made a mistake, shouldn't they recall the color?? I want to pick another brand, but don't know what to choose.

I have lost so much hair. Now I am still losing my hair. I have so many bold spots on my head now. I used had very thick and strong hair. Now I am so depressed. I worried that I might need a wig soon. I had used this product for so many years and never had problem, until the last time. Felt it was a totally different product. They shouldn't sell this type product without more research. It is so scary and made me angry.

I have been using Natural Instincts 23r and 5rr.
The thing is my fine hair (naturally curly,) does not have much strength I used to have it halfway down the back and I find the hair getting shorter and thinner.
Just shoulder length now.I use coconut oil and argon oil which is a lifesaver, but after coloring the hair there are even long strands coming out . It,s not just after coloring but my bathroom floor tells me something is happening. I love the color but what is going on?
Is there another brand out there that does the job better or all the hair colors damaging? No one could take better care of their hair, I only wash it every 5
days or so.

My experience has been much the same. I have used Natural Instincts for 7 years. I have not liked the newer product. Orange hair and scalp with the refresher. I've been blaming my hair loss on anything I could think of. Now I know.

I have used Natural Instincts for several years. ( #13, Suade) I have always been pretty satisfied until they changed the product. They put the color refresher in and took away half the conditioner. The refresher turns your hair red/orange. I did email Clairol and they said they were puzzled. Really?? I told them to go back to the old stuff, it was better all the way around. But they haven't and I'm sure they won't. I think I will save up all the color refreshers and send them back to them....maybe they will use it....but I'm sure they don't want to look like Bozo!

I have been using this product for years, same color. And I recently dyed my hair with it.... MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT NOW. I'm getting a bald spot on the top of my head, everytime I touch my hair it breaks off several strands... I used to have very healthy long hair down to my buns. Im now chest length and still having to go shorter. My hair is so thin and brittle... Horrible product. :(

Wish I would have known about this review site before I tried CLAIROL NATURAL INSTINCTS CREME. After following the instructions, When I rinsed my hair out it was RED/ORANGE not Auburn. and there porduct didn't even color all my hair, have strips of brown. I wouldn't even give this product a full star. My hair is now a disaster. Hoping I can correct this mess tomorrow. Will let everyone around know this product is bogus.

Pretty much anything I have ever used has worked to cover up my gray until now. Tried this product the other day and waited the full 15 minutes. It looked as though I never colored my hair. Just took alot of time and effort for no results. I had to color my hair with Loreal 10 minutes a few days later and that worked beautifully.

I was extremely disappointed with this product. When you put it on your hair it drips all over the place and makes a real mess! The color did not cover a particular area of my hair, even though I waited the maximum of 15 minutes, as suggested on the directions! Also, the color that came out was too red and it looks okay, but not what I had anticipated!! All around this product is terrible and I will never ever use it again or recommend it to anyone!! Very disappointed. If I had known it would be so messy, I never would have purchased it!
