“Be wary if you try to cancel”

Written on: 24/07/2015 by GwendolynConway (1 review written)

I cancelled in March , in writing, hand delivered personally to the Gym. They proceeded to take the next months payment. I then cancelled my direct debit and thought no more about it. A couple of months later I got a letter from Harlands asking for £65. I rang them and wrote to them. They told me to take it up with the gym. The gym told me to take it up with membership services. They referred me back to the gym who then referred me back to Harlands. I went around in circles !! I ended up… Read Full Review

“Cancelled my membership in March, received notice...”

Written on: 17/07/2015 by tfokka (1 review written)

Cancelled my membership in March, received notice today that Harlands are chasing me for money I owe them. I cancelled because I moved away and everyone informed me that this was fine, and would be dealt with. Apparently not. AVOID, the cheap fees are offset by their atrocious customer service. Nobody knows what's going on. Good value for money though… Read Full Review

“Worst gym !!”

Written on: 13/07/2015 by 1967Miranda (1 review written)

I will not recommend this gym to any one. I have given 3 times cancellation applications and all the times, they promised that they will just take one month fees and after that they will cancel direct debit but its more 3 months and money is going from my account. I cancelled my direct debit in frustration so I not notice with penalty fees. Its my money which is wasting and I can not do anything!!!!! Horrible staff !! and they don't give any proof that they have cancelled my contract… Read Full Review

Written on: 10/07/2015 by Mooneyri126 (1 review written)

I find it very disgraceful how iv missed 1 payment by 4 days and iv been fined £35 and if I don't pay it by the 17th July otherwise further charges. I think it's discusting it's like them who own it haven't missed a payment. Id advise no one to join. My experience includes getting funny looks from the staff and when iv called them over they look like they don't give to sh*tsand when they say they will come back they don't and as for the classes like circuit training how are full time moms ment… Read Full Review

“Do NOT join!!”

Written on: 09/07/2015

A gentleman from Xercise4less came into my work (big company) and gave us all a good deal as the gym was opening just down the road. Didn't think much of it as it was approved by my bosses. The guy gave me a good sales pitch as I was already a member at another gym. I declined but he insisted I give him my number, so I did. He called me the next day and after a long conversation I decided to join up. The only question I had was how do I cancel and he said all you need to do is cancel your… Read Full Review

“Bully boy tactics”

Written on: 07/07/2015

All I can do is reiterate the reviews I have read. After instructors not turning up (as they have left due to awful treatment) I also emailed to cancel membership after completing 12 months contract. Emailed manager directly twice but got no response, therefore I cancelled my direct debit, now I have received the threatening letters from Harlands. I have spoken to my bank and they have asked if I would like their legal team to look into the matter. Yes please! Please don't join this gym… Read Full Review

“Disgusting Service! - AVOID”

Written on: 06/07/2015 by Sharl29 (1 review written)

My advice to anyone considering joining this gym is don't do it. You will have no end of problems if you want to leave them. I joined Xercise4less in Swansea and my contract was up in April. I gave them 6 weeks notice in writing to cancel. I received a confirmation email that this would all be sorted and they would contact Harlands to cancel my direct debit. Two months later they were still taking payments out of my account. I then cancelled direct debit on my side to prevent further payments… Read Full Review

“Horrendous management ”

Written on: 04/07/2015 by KaliCollier384 (1 review written)

So I was offered a deal in MK and thought I'd look into it further and accepted as I was told I could cancel prior to 10 days of opening. Myself and my partner both found out it wasn't 24/7 So because we wanted to cancel the person who signed us up started of by point blank refusing. He then started ignoring us. I tried calling him. To no avail. I then sent him a text and still no response. After having to contacting the General manager I finally managed to cancel. I was completely and… Read Full Review

“Never Never Never”

Written on: 29/06/2015 by Paul1995 (1 review written)

This has got to be one of the worst business practices I have come across, and not just in the fitness sector. Paid to use the gym in June 2014 and it was open only for the final week of June. Told I was signing up to a 12 month contract with 12 monthly payments. I paid the first by credit card so was expecting to only have to pay 11 direct debit statements. They said they would post the terms and conditions to me (so I could not read them there and then) and realised it was 12 monthly direct… Read Full Review

“Joined last year - great place to train”

Written on: 29/06/2015 by Jaime418 (1 review written)

I joined Xercise4Less Hull last year, it's an awesome place to train, I've been doing lots of functional training with the Functional Rig, TRX, Kettlebells, battle ropes and ladders which I wouldn't expect a gym where I pay just £9.99pm, I'm also really impressed with the classes that are on, I do Body Pump myself but my wife goes to zumba, yoga and lbt and she speaks very highly of them all. I've just read loads of bad reviews on here but don't get which gym these people have been to. When I… Read Full Review

“By far the worst gym ”

Written on: 21/06/2015 by Mohamedt1990 (1 review written)

In my opinion it has the worst ethics and the worst business model. its like senior managers are deliberately running it down the train. I was a member of Bristol gym and it was so sad to see the way They treat their staff and personal trainers were being treated by head office. Personal trainers ate self employed who don't get paid for working there but ontop of paying rent, running 3 classes a week and working shifts for free head office has Now imposed on them to do free personal training… Read Full Review

Could not agree more, worked as the Head PT for the Edinburgh gym,and they wanted me to force my team of PT's to sell £500 of Supplements each month to members and clients, and distribute and make them do PT "fitpack" sessions which they keep all the money for. When I stood up to them, and refused to enforce these policies,my P45 was immediately dispatched to me.I have now reported their antics to BBC Watchdog, and am getting nationwide support from PT's about the way they take advantage of their PT's as an easy way to make money for them.

Its disgusting how they treat you personal trainers and get away with it. A similar situation happened afew weeks ago to the head personal trainer In Bristol branch. I am interested to hear more about BBC watch dog. Maybe a few of us can give them members point of view.

“USE THEIR PT's AS CASH COWS”

Written on: 20/06/2015 by alastair4151 (2 reviews written)

I worked as a Head PT for this company for 2 months, and being in the fitness industry for 26 years was horrified at the way they treat their PT's.They consistently brought out "fitpack deals" where their members would pay them money to have 2 or 4 free PT Sessions, the latest one being 4 one hour sessions for £20.They then made it compulsory for the PT's to fulfil these sessions for nothing, while they pocketed every penny of the promotion price.Secondly they pressurised all the PT's and Head PT… Read Full Review

“Crooks when you want to cancel”

Written on: 19/05/2015 by kuHancock1987 (1 review written)

I cancelled in writing giving 30 days notice, which is what I believed was all i needed when i signed up. I cancelled my direct debit as I had heard they continued to take payment unless you spotted it. I then received a letter from a company calling itself CRS, but which is actually Harlands Ltd (the people who collect your direct debit), claiming i had breached my contract and that I now had to pay £220 or they would take me to court. Apparently I had to give 3 months notice to cancel, plus… Read Full Review

“Taking money after I did everything they asked to cancel”

Written on: 14/05/2015

They ignore letters and e-mails asking to cancel their service. I'm trying to fix this now, but effectively, their representatives, Harlands have sent me a letter threatenting to charge £25.00 becuase I cancelled my Direct Debit. Of course I cancelled it, we haven't used their facilities in 10 months and we've sent several letters and e-mails to cancel now the 12 month commitment is up. I'll have to take legal action soon if this carries on, but I warn everyone to steer clear unless you… Read Full Review

“Exercise 4 Much Much Less than the Rest”

Written on: 04/05/2015 by birdrecruit (2 reviews written)

I joined the Bolton branch recently after sampling numerous other gyms on a trial basis in the area. In particular I tried the David Lloyd gym which, although quite good in many respect, required an annual membership fee of over £700 were totally unwilling to negotiate on price. I was staggered and impressed right from the start by the high level of customer service offered by Xercise4less which has remained consistent throughout. The team were concerned about me and when I heard that the… Read Full Review

“STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY!”

Written on: 11/04/2015 by Nathana329 (1 review written)

Since following their procedure laid down in the contract to resign by the book I have been treated like a criminal. No matter how many emails; phone calls and person visits there is in no let up in what is their internal system of pursuing me for costs now at £75. They are totally incompetent and impersonal I have evidence of my side all the way through but this does not seem to count. Either incompetent or deliberately nasty- I don't know… Read Full Review
