“Avoid this company!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ciara251 on 25/06/2021

Absolutely appalling business. You are forced into a 2 month contract, not the 1 month as advertised, as you're unable to cancel within 14 days of joining but yet have to get 30 days notice. So I called back in November and was told (by two different people) that my account was closed. 7 months later I've been charged twice and because there's no email trail they will not give me a refund.  This is not how key workers should be treated.

““STAY CLEAR - AVOID AT ALL COSTS - HIDDEN CHARGES””

★☆☆☆☆

written by MK-VIC on 27/11/2017

I took 2 membership from Xercise 4 Less Milton Keynes branch for myself and my wife, my wife’s membership was a gift for her birthday. The membership was sign in the gym with one of the representative while we were both present with the then current offer “1 month free with 11month payment by direct debit with £20 registration fee per person payable immediately. Last payment for our contractual obligation was up in March 2017, I still paid for April after which I stopped the direct debit payment. During the course of the membership, the payment has always being prompt despite the fact that we have only used the gym for an average of 5months with 7 months of non-usage. I received a letter from a company called Harland in regards to the cancellation of our gym membership with Xercise4less, this I immediately responded with a phone call to one of their customer service representative stating that the direct debit was cancelled as we have fulfilled our contractual obligation with Xercise 4 Less. I was advised that their record states that I signed up online which I said that I did not, it was a face to face sign on at the gym and that there was no mention of cancellation notification. I was advised to go and sort it out with the gym, this I did on the same day; on getting there I found out that lots of customers have also complained about not being told on signing up of the same issue “1 month cancellation notice”. I’m now getting threatening letters and txt message from HARLANDS who manage the finances for Xercise4Less and their cohorts; Credit Resolution Services (in house Rip Off agents).

I had a very similar issue. I started a year long membership back in April 2018 which finished in May. So I cancelled my direct debit and sent off the cancellation form that the website said I should send off. I will admit I cancelled (or tried to) my contract early which meant that I got multiple emails from Harlands saying I owed money. I contacted the gym and paid that off before waiting until the end of my contract. Once my contract was up, I called the gym and again was advised that I would have to fill out the cancellation form. So I went online and filled it out. I then received a confirmation email saying that my final payment would be in 30 days and that would be it. But no, i then was continuously charged for monthly payments. It is now November and still, nothing has been resolved.

“STAY AWAY”

XERCISE4LESS MEMBERSHIP HARLANDS CREDIT COMPANY CRS My direct debit cancelled due to my bank closing down without my knowledge.harlands suddenly started sending me letters saying I owed late payment fee.I contacted my gym in which the manager said he will resolve it with head office.I waited 6 weeks and still no reply from head office.I decided to pay my late payment fee together with the 2 months that I missed in September 2017..in the same phone call I asked the advisor as I will be cancelling my membership I will call up myself and make the last month payment over the phone as I have no bank at the moment to set up my direct debit with.harlands then put wrong notes on the account and hey presto received a fee of 120 pound from their credit department because the payment of 10 pound was not made by direct debit which I I already told them why it didnt. Just got off the phone to harlands who were so rude.did not listen.refused to put me through to a manager and terminated my phone call .I feel sick this is the worst customer service call of my life..so as it stands I do not want to be a member of this goon gym any more. They will not cancel my membership.and they insist I pay the 120 or else they will do so and so. I am going to take this to trading standards and do the most damage possible if this does not get resolved.and if this so called fee of 120 does not get sorted. I want my membership cancelled with immediate effect and my fraudulent charge of 120 that is applied by credit department at harlands to be squashed. If not then I will take this as far as I can ..I will dpproach trading standards..put in newspaper and write a complain on every site possible on the internet. STAY AWAY FROM THIS GYM!!!!!

“£25 admin fee”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EmersonDavis on 24/10/2017

Joined exercise4less first 2 months I never used it,I still haven't used it 6 months on. I switched my bank details and unfortunately the new bank acc wasn't set up in time to pay x4less so, rather than re apply they charged me a £25 fee on top of a £12.99pm membership!!! I refused to pay and did not consent to their cancelation terms which are a disgrace! There is no justification for such a fee. They were totally unhelpful on the phone and wouldn't remove the fee. my acc has now been cancelled and passed to CRS credit agency who have added another £66, current balance £260!!!...........I'm not paying !! credit history has now been effected. no matter I'm bankrupt anyway so, get it up you Harlands Xercise4less and CRS!!

“Bureaucratic nightmare”

★★☆☆☆

written by Aguirre448 on 02/03/2017

Exercise for less is pretty ok as gyms go, but customer service is virtually non-existent, the staff at the gym itself are there to sign you up and get your bank details, but after that if you do have a concern, their power to actually do anything about it is extremely limited, and you will be given an email address; there is no head office contact phone no, and recently they had TWO accounts running for me, as I applied online I opened one account, but had missed out on their opening offer of a cheaper fee, so when I opened THAT account at the actual gym, they never closed my original account for the higher price, meaning I was paying THAT amount of money PLUS the 'cheaper' price because I had two direct debits being taken from my account, and I was NEVER informed.I have since read the reviews of many others who have had similar experiences with this company, who treat their paying members in an extremely disrespectful and exploitative manner.

“Avoid at all costs. Easy to Get in Nightmare to get out”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MBibs on 28/01/2016

Bristol Experience: Beware his gym is very close to Fishponds (close to UWE) and appears cheap for students. However this company is untrustworthy. If you fail to exit your membership correctly (buried in FAQ), they will not contact you by text or email, choosing snail-mail. If this is to your prior year's address then the next you will find out about it is a bill for the "arrears" and £100+ "debt collection fee" from CRS (Credit Resolution Services). In my case £172. Ironically this is the first text they will have sent you. CRS do nothing more than quote that all they are legally obliged to do is write to you and you are technically in breach of the terms and conditions Gym membership ended up costing £20+ pcm due to the sting in the tail. Legally they are right, morally this company is bankrupt.  avoid this sharp practice at all costs unless you are prepared to read all the small print.

“Looking for a gym for the new year? DO NOT JOIN!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Conley407 on 31/12/2015

I have been a member at this gym for over 6 months now and I seriously would not recommend! It may be cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for! Staff are so rude, the membership was completely miss old to us! It is nothing like the description that the general manager provided us with! They try to enrol as many members as they can and cram them all in. As a result you spend more time waiting around for a free piece of equipment as apposed to actually using it. This is common at most gyms however we were promised by the general manager that this would never be the case at Xercise4Less as they were going to provide a great deal of equipment and the £9.99 membership fee would be an exclusive 1 day offer! 6 months later they are still offering that fee. It is also quite shocking to see young people under 16 struggling to use equipment that they clearly haven't been shown how to use. The personal trainers don't even walk around the gym to make sure people are using the equipment correctly to avoid injuries!

I agree Rotherham gym reception man is a arrogant price of work . The gym is warmer than a sauna. Complained about air conditioning not working was told they could open the doors but it's the doors by the staff that r opened not the weights area. After 30 mins had to come out the heat was making me light headed. Asked for regional managers details not willing to give u it this place is dangerously warm and putting customers health and safety at risk

“Poor aftercare once they have you in their clutches”

★☆☆☆☆

written by EveDouglas on 10/12/2015

Xercise4less is a strange organisation. Once you join everything seems to be handled online. The gymnasia themselves are poorly staffed in terms of numbers and availability, certainly in the Bristol Gym. When it comes to queries you are directed to a convoluted series of websites. If you log in to your membership website you get a cut-down version of the main website (aimed at luring people in) with where the only choices are to do with class booking. When I joined I had incessant emails for body building products spamming me and somehow linked to Xercise4less. When I asked about leaving, because budget it genuinely is and budget service and atmosphere it has, I was treated appallingly. When I pointed to the poor linkages on the website and lack of information I was told that I was the only customer never to have found it. When asking to change my direct debit date I was told it was nothing to do with them but to contact Harlands. It really is the most unprofessional outfit. When you try and contact a main head office, it doesn't seem to exist.

“scammers rip you off with hidden contracts and charges”

written by drsav on 04/12/2015

i JOINED the xercise4less gym due to a friend recommendation. A women danielle took my bank details on the phone and put them on 12 month contract without telling me any details, without taking my correctdetails not even a correct email address.... hence i remained oblivious to what terms and conditions and contract i was placed on... later on friend followed up and i finally recieved my membership email. I felt them suspicious from first day and decided to cancel. I called danielle and asked her to cancel my membership and refund me. she said dhe will without informing me. I also filled the form on their page clarifying I do not need their membership. wrote their manager an email. All to no reply. I am a mum of 4 a7, 5 4 and 1year baby so without childcare its imposible for me to benefit from them.... while their cancellation form wants reasons with proof and you have to go on paying DD or else get in trouble with credit company... what a dead end. I never knew i would end up in such a hell hole... what absoulte cheap scammers and liars...

“Epic space with boxing ring and fighting cage!”

★★★★★

written by GymCat on 28/11/2015

This Hounslow gym is worth attending. Has got boxing ring and fighting cage. I felt inspired and motivated the moment I went there. Definitely well planned location of the exuipment. Gym is allocated in the heart of Hounslow. Easy access, affordable plus they do day passes. I' can recommend and attend. They have this vending machine with shakes too. I like the welcoming and friendly staff. Lockers available out of the changing room for penny's so no worries if you ain't got your padlock. No excuses then just working out that body. Fontaine alters clean and in general very nite and tidy place. My friends love it too. Will definitely recommend this gym to my family.

“treat clients like rubbish”

written by dawnshan1noland1 on 30/10/2015

After eventually getting into a class on kirkstall road because the classes are always full!! I came out with a bruised face after somebody hitting me in the face with a metal bar because they were so desperate to get their equipment as never equipped enough for the classes. I reported to reception but couldn't write it down because they were busy. Can never get parked because lack of car parking so cancelled my membership as I had never signed anything and all done over telephone and was told I could cancel at any time. Anyway after speaking with them o er the phone it has cost me 50 pounds to get their bully boy debtors off my back. Pay a bit more guys and go to a decent gym as this one is appalling.

“Do not join”

written by Male27 on 29/10/2015

Please everyone do not join this gym you will regret it, I've had nothing but problems. At one point there was no drinking water for the four months I was there, and over 9 machines broke at one point for over 3 months, they was telling me the water in the toilet was drinking water, I proved them wrong. Took me months to cancel I tried loads of times I sent emails time after time with no replay, they kept making me promises that they would sort it and they never did, I ended up canceling with my bank, then I get threatening letters asking for money, I had to go see a solicitor they sorted it out for me, I still got no apology. My time at this gym was very stressful. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM XERCISE4LESS the worse gym ever.

“DO NOT JOIN”

written by Exercise4lessripoff on 02/10/2015

Very similar to others' experiences, having trouble cancelling my membership from the Rotherham gym. I had written in as it states quite clearly on the website giving the mandatory 30 days notice, then cancelled my direct debits to receive a letter from Harlands within 48 hours stating that I had to reinstate my direct debit and that I had to contact them between 9am -1pm and 2pm -5pm to confirm reinstatement. Contacted the gym to be told that the letter I had written had probably been destroyed or lost as they don't act on written letters and that I have to go down to the gym between 9am -12pm Monday to Friday to see a Manager to complete a cancellation form instead. When asked when the Manager would be there, the reply was "anytime, but whether he will see you is another matter". This is 2015, NO COMPANY should be allowed to treat it's customers like this. Trading standards should shut them down. I will let them take me to court and show them for what they really are.

I've had a similar issue with this gym, after my year contract I came into the gym and cancelled my contract giving them the 30 days notice, like yourself after this I cancelled my direct debit and received a letter from garlands asking me to reinstate my direct debit, I contacted the gym who gave me a telephone number to call them, after this call I was assured that this would be the end of it but one month later I received another demand letter to reinstate and that I owed them gym membersHip, I called garlands again and was assured it would be sorted, I've now received another two demand letters and have contacted the gym asking for a letter confirming my membership cancellation which I was told was at the managers discretion, as you can imagine I am still waiting for this

“Cannot get membership cancelled”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Murphyyn225 on 01/10/2015

My son joined on line, accidentally 3 times. He thought that he had only joined once, went to the gym Xercise4less at Wigan twice and requested that his membership be cancelled. He later finds out that 3 membership subscriptions have been taken from his bank account, direct debits were cancelled. We went to the gym and spoke to the manager who gave 3 slips to cancel the memberships and said that he would contact Harlands, who keep sending letters claiming £25 administration fees on all 3 accounts Harlands have been sent copies of the cancellation slips issued by the Wigan Gym manager but still keep sending threatening letters It has been pointed out to them that he is a student with no money but they still send demands I have tried to ring them on several occasions, a message says that "the phone call is important to them" but nobody answers the phone even after 15 minutes

“DO NOT JOIN THIS EXCUSE OF A GYM!!!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MarleySerrano on 28/09/2015

******READ******* Anybody thinking of joining xercise4less...DON'T!!!!! I was a member for a year. When I first joined the gym I tried to go in several times. All times I was turned away due to different reasons - most of the time the roof caving in, or leaking or just generally being rubbish! They were so uninterested in this fact that they hung up on me twice!!!... After 12 months I used their online system to send a message stating that I would like to cancel my membership, gave my email address in case they had any problem with it. After a week of no response I went ahead and cancelled my membership with ANOTHER message telling them and to get in touch if problems. THREE MONTHS later, I have today received a letter from a debt collectors saying I am in arrears and owe £207!!!! tell me...WHY am i paying 3 months worth of interest on a balance that shouldn't even exist when I gave them 2 opportunities to tell me there was an issue?! Absolutely LIVID!!!! there's a reason the can charge their members so little, it's cos when you leave they hit you with a massive bill!! i am not the first person I know that they have done this to! DO NOT JOIN!!!!!

I have just experienced this! I cancelling my membership
In branch in nov 14 as it was due to expire in Dec 14( having not used gym since May) I was told not to cancel direct debit as they would do it! Silly me didn't check
Bank and on June 15 monies were still being taken! Cancelled again in branch to be told no record of it in Nov so tough I won't get the £80 owed me back, and again not to cancel direct debit. Lo and behold July another payment is taken. I cancelled the direct debit thro the bank they reimbursed me! Now I'm being threatened with £207 bill! I am seeking advice and urge others to do the same! They have fee reign to our bank accounts ! Didn't realise I would have to prove I signed their cancellation form as I didn't realise they would loose it! Never been in debt so thanks xcercise for less!

“Staffed by liars”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Catalinag281 on 26/09/2015

Worst gym ever for customer service. I joined over a month ago on a £4.99 deal. I only wanted the classes and the staff member who signed me up swore blind the deal included classes. So I joined, got an online log in to book the classes and an email confirming the classes were included. So far so good right? Wrong. Booked the classes fine for 2 weeks then head office locked me out saying I had the wrong type of membership. I emailed them on facebook to complain, got a very rude reply they then blocked me from posting on their fb page and blocked my messages! To their credit the gym I joined admitted their mistake to me and a lot of others they signed up on this deal and said I can still attend classes but its a pain as I now have to book them in the gym and they are often full. There are lots of other gyms about, if you buy cheap you get cheap - stay away!!!

Do not join this gym .I have been trying to cancel for over 2 weeks making a number of phone calls and visits to the gym and still they havnt canceled .In the mean time i am getting debt letters from their partner company( HARLANDS ) telling me to set up my direct debit account or i will get charges added to my bill . I canceled within a 14 day cooling of period and now they are telling me they is no cooling of period .once you join your in for a year . they cant even run a gym which is why i left .Going to go back too my old gym that actually keeps it clean and people have respect for the equipment . All i saw in the gym was people not wearing gym cloths but dirty work cloths .People eating in the exercise areas and throwing banana skins on the floor .Weights never put away so you end up tripping over them .staff always on their mobile phones instead of doing their job .They might do a joining deal for you but believe me you wont get a deal .

I have ongoing problems with harlands and xercise 4less. Have home contents insurance which covers legal representation. Was told on a different issue by a lawyer that if you are not told of your right to cancel a goods and services contract within 14 days then your right to cancel is then extended to one year (12 months). This is law under the goods and services act 1982. If you are told you have no right to cancel. Then they are in breach of this

Managers hanging up calls so not to deal with the problem passed from pillar to post. Do not join! Drinks machines empty for months once filled staff unable to help with giving change so machines can be used.

Look at my review on here. The only way to go is tell the gym the issue and make sure they contact the creditor in front of you. Dont let them tell you they will sort it later as it wont happen. My review says alot more on how I delt with a issue. Good luck.
