When Virgin active first took over from Holmes Place the health club was good. The plus points of the health are the reception staff are very friendly, good locker space and the Spa pool area is good.The only problem is some staff do not use overshoes in the pool, increasing the chance of verrucas etc. The bad points are most of the memembers that were there when I first joined have left. This comes as no surprise, The maintenance work is terrible. Gym machines are often out of action always seems to be problems with the mens changing room (blocked wash basins and urinals have always had problems.) There used to be 2 maintenance staff employed, now there appears to be none. The cleaner has a disgusting habit of storing toilet rolls in a waste bin along with used paper towels. The staff seem to think they come before the customers in the use of the gym. There is one person in particular, that takes over most of the free weights section at times with his friends. In the evening time the gym is a complete mess with free weights all over the place and it increase the time I spend in the gym trying to find my prefered weights to use. The gym floor staff are only interested in working out with their friends and chatting to ladies. About one hour before the gym closes the gym floor staff rush around putting the free weights back in place and dont appear to be to happy if anyone uses them once they have been put back. I think it would be bettet if a good clean of the changing area was carried out when the gym is closed.
