I read all of these reviews and it is so sad to hear, I joined almost ten years ago when I was working in Chester, everything was clean and modern. The staff just let me get on with my workouts, which I prefer. It was all so clean and tidy the pools were great; I actually used to spend most of my evenings in there. Started with a heavy training session on the weights followed by all the pools and saunas ect. I thought to myself at the time, this is how going to a gym should be. Anyway I moved on from Chester and headed back to local back street gyms where most of my training over the last 20 years has happened. Now I am living in Australia and just came across these reviews and it’s sad to hear. I think Total Fitness was opened by the creator of a Kwik Saves - a guy with the surname - Goodbye (Not spelt correctly) from Llandudno - first Kwik Save was in Prestayn. I think he was a Jewish guy that came over to the UK after the Second World War; his brother owned a photography store in Llandudno called - Oriental Stores.
Shame to hear his business ended up like this, but I really don’t see how you can make a lot of money out of gyms as soon as a pool goes in your losing cash on a daily basis, they are very expensive to maintain. The recession won’t have helped. People not doubt forfeited memberships which at around five hundred were pretty expensive although not that pricey. But when you lose your job then the gym membership is first to go.
I suppose all these staff members will be under pressure and the good managers will have long left the company replaced with low talented people who can't efficiently direct staff members which is no doubt causing operations to be running poorly.
Once again I am so sad to hear about this chain going to the wall they were once the best gyms in the UK, they had it all for all types of gym goers!! RIP Total, if you want to join a gym I would not join one anymore.
