“DO NOT SIGN YOUR LIFE AWAY”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ClazD on 24/07/2012

I went for a trial class at the Harrogate Ladies Workout Express gym in Jan. I then signed up for a 1 week free trial which would then bring me to a membership. However I was immediatly charged the £35 joining fee and had to pay the first month there and then. I was basically railroaded into getting my membership there and then. The staff were rude and unfriendly and had no interest in showing me any of the circuits or the machinary. I soon decided to cancel my membership, but being an idiot I had not read the terms and conditions and didnt know I had to sign up for a year as it was never pointed out to me, and they didnt exactly give you much time to read over the contract. I have ended up being referred to a collections agency and have had to pay out nearly £400 in fees. I have used a lot of gyms and other sporting facilities and I have NEVER been treated like this. I think it is absolutely disgusting.

“Joined the ladies workout express in Glasgow when it...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 27/12/2010

Joined the ladies workout express in Glasgow when it first opened. The fact that the first 100 members had no joining fee was one of the pros, also at the time the staff seemed really friendly and there was a nice atmosphere. However, 4 weeks later, everything changed drastically. Attitude of the staff was appalling! Wouldn't even get a word out of them and they always seemed too busy at their computer. The nice atmosphere which was there at the beginning had now changed to a gloomy, dreadful atmosphere. They didn't even invest in fans and didn't even open the windows. Instead, they claimed that keeping the lights off kept it cool? Awful! It just made it all dark and gloomy.
The 'boss' was nice at first, but then her attitude changed. She became cheeky and spoke to others as if she was speaking to children. Was very arrogant and all I got was a hello out of her when walking in. It's as if she liked to put others down. Later on I found out I was conned into a years contract. Was being told by someone else I could have joined for three months before the boss came and rudely stopped the conversation so I could not find out more.
The machines were ok, was shown how to use them once. Few weeks later, one of the women told me I had been doing it wrong. I was very annoyed at this fact as they don't even stand and show you how to use it especially as it was the first time I had joined a gym, ever. The way they sit at the computer and ignore everyone is as if they're doing a top government mission. Few months into the gym - they bring in a very cheap cross-trainer and treadmill, at a charge of one pound per session on top of the £30 monthly fee! Proved to be very unpopular and they then returned it. They couldn't even be bothered to fix the pedals of the bikes and at times the boss seemed a little racist. As soon as a White person walked in she would be right next to their machine talking to them as if they have known each other for years whereas with others she wouldn't even acknowledge the fact that there'd there and would sit at her computer.
Can't wait until my contract is over as there is no chance in hell I would ever renew my contract with them. I would also advise people not to join their gym. Appalling behaviour of staff - very cheeky and arrogant. Only friendly once I had been conned into joining for a year and couldn't even cancel my contract. Please go somewhere else. Even their machines creak and are dirty! Save your money and join a different gym.

“PLEASE DONT JOIN THIS PLACE, YOU WONT GET ANY RESULTS...”

written by Sueli on 22/07/2010

PLEASE DONT JOIN THIS PLACE, YOU WONT GET ANY RESULTS and will be a nightmare to cancel it later.
I would never recommend this place. I joined a Ladies WorkOut Express in Massapequa IN 2008. One ladie was nice and talked with me somethimes, all the others was just so busy looking the computer that they never saw me coming or going out. In January 2009 my husband asked for them to cancel my 1 one year contract that would end in April, they told us to come in in March. I did it. In March i was there and asked the ladie called Nancy to cancel my contract and make sure they would not renew my contract because i also was moving from the area. In the midle of the process of selling a house and moving to a new house, we were really busy. This month I took a close look to my bills and realized that Ladies Express still was charging me 4 months after i asked then to cancell it. I went there 2 times, plus called many times. The owner, Shelly was there and didnt care any minute. She said it was my fault that i didnt write a letter asking for cancel!!! It was never her employe fault who didnt write down or didnt give me instructions about writting a letter to then. She treat me like if i was a lier and was acusing her employe who works with her for so long. It means that i have no importance but her employe who didnt do the correct job was right! Nancy had the corajous of tell me she didnt remember me asking her to cancel it!!!!But i was there twice and asked for cancelationg before in January and in MArch, how she can say that she doesnot have any notes about it? She barely know what she is doing there. I started to feel very mad because all the money i spent there was not worth to it. The service is poor, the circuit didnt work, i didnt loose any pound going there and it was not an inspired place anyway. The Franchise company called us and said they only could refund us if they got one autorization for it, what didnt happen because Shelly didnt want refund us. They are not professional, not kind, not interested in keeping people around happy, they only care about get money from stupid ladies like me who once signed a contract with them. I wont get any close of this place, wont recommend it to nobody for ever. I guess they will lose so much more than 120.00 dolares because i want make sure to let people know how nasty they treat people and how irresponsable Nancy was when i asked her to make sure that i would not renew my contract. Lets see for how long her gym will be open.
PLEASE DONT JOIN THIS PLACE, YOU WONT GET ANY RESULTS

“I have called Ladies Workout Express NFFS many times...”

written by on 31/08/2009

I have called Ladies Workout Express NFFS many times to cancel my month - to - month that was advertised in the newspaper in Iowa City, and they will not return my call, I called the home office that does the billing and they cannot cancel it because the North Liberty site entered it in for a 36 month contract. Called for the 4th time, let see if I hear back. Will post on if they did or not. I will not tell anyone to join this place. Times I did go I thought it was not worth it.

“I participated in the 12 week sauna study. I am...”

written by trind on 15/04/2008

I participated in the 12 week sauna study. I am currently an intensive care nurse and work 3-4 twelve hour shifts per week (7a-8pm). During this process I tried to make it in during the small time frame of hours the club is open, but fell short due to illness and inconvenience. When I did get to the club it was overly crowded with no machines available.

Now at the end of this "study" which no one has weighed my or taken my measurements they will not allow me to cancel my 2 year membership. I am an avad club participator and am very dissapointed at the services provided.

written by Rogersmaryann on 08/03/2007

As soon as I joined up I was totally ignored by staff, who never even looked over to see anybody. She was constantly looking at the computer. No interaction at all with any kind of staff. When I first signed up she was very nice, but not at all knowledgeable of machines.

I personally think Ladies Workout Express NFFS gym is not worth the money for that kind of service.

written by baileynow on 01/10/2006

When I joined Ladies Workout Express NFFS, I was told I could also go to other affiliate clubs. I was not told there was a limit to the use of other clubs. Now I am told you may only use another club twice a week. I am unsatisfied with my gym. The circuit training was having no effect on my weight. I need something more which I knew another club had treadmills, elliptical and classes. Now I am being told that because it is not in writing that you can go to other clubs, that it is a breach of contract and I can't cancel the membership under any circumstances. I would not recommend this gym to my enemy.

Ladies Workout Express NFFS offers free personal training, one on one support, and they are very kind. There are no vending machines which isn't so good but this gym is an excellent value!

written by dbloom on 29/08/2006

Ladies Workout Express NFFS had only 4 outdated treadmills, that rarely worked and no elliptical machines! The club closed its doors 3 months into a 2 year contract, but I was required to finish paying $39.95 for two years or be sent to collection. Horrible business ethics.

My Ladies Workout Express closed without notice, and the national organisation will not issue me with a refund, and are turning me over to collections for failing to pay the rest of my contract, even though there is no gym??

I live in NC and my Ladies Workout Express closed without warning also...I was threatened to pay the rest of my contract or be turned over to a collection agency and they would destroy my credit! How ridiculous is that! Over $15.00 a month they would destroy my credit and let me file countless complaints like this instead of just cancelling the contract! WARNING LADIES don't be fooled by these people that promise you fairness..they don't deliver!! You will be scammed...sounds like its common practice to close these places and continue to collect membership dues...by the way did you notice I said $15 a month...they charge different prices for different people...i never understood why some of the women at my club said they were paying $39.95 a month and $19 a month and so on.....seems like that breaks some kind of fairness or ethical law right there!

This is a great program.. it works for those who are in shape and people who are just starting a fitness program. You can adapt the program as your fitness level increases.
The staff are just amazing, so helpful and they watch to make sure that everyone is using the machines correctly and also help to adapt the exercises for anyone who has limitations.
It is also very affordable!

“I joined the 16 week "free" promotional program. ”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by kingsusa22 on 21/05/2005

I joined the 16 week "free" promotional program.
(not really free, you pay a monthly fee during the 16 weeks).
I signed a contract that stated as long as I met the main 3 requirements:
1. Attend all their health education classes
2. Exercise at minimum 3 x week and maintain log
3. Meet w/ trainer for scheduled sessions weekly
Then.........
I would have the OPTION of declining their otherwise mandatory 2 year gym contract at the end of the 16 week program.
I let them know when I signed up that, among other health problems, I had hypertension (which I managed successfully with medication).
I diligently applied myself to their program and worked out approx 3-4 x week within the parameters established by my trainer. My compliance was thoroughly documented. Within 4 to 6 weeks in the program, my blood pressure began to escalate to dangerously high levels. I experienced pounding head and throat pain during my workouts and my baseline blood pressure quit responding to any of the medications my physicians tried. I was diagnosed with intractable malignant hypertension and told to immediately stop exercising since there was a direct, negative correlation to elevated exercise heart rate. I let the gym know of my condition. I was assured there was no problem.
After 8 weeks of rest and no changes in my condition, I underwent emergency brain surgery to relieve arterial compression of my brainstem.
Since the surgery, I have some damage to cranial nerves and have lost partial function of my left arm. I let the gym know and I communicated regularly with the telephone representative assigned to my case in their collections dept.
Although I TWICE provided them with the completed disability waiver signed by my physician that exempted me from their contract, they relentlessly attempt to collect $ for breach of contract.
I have had to block them from debiting my checking account.
I have had to hire an attorney to protect me from harrassment from this company.
And of course, my lawyer assures me that the contract is, in fact, null/ void/ unenforceable.
Yet, they call me and leave telephone messages daily. When I do pick up the phone, the ineptitude of their staff so infuriates me that I have to hang up and force myself to calm down. They plead ignorance of knowing anything about my case and state that they have lost all the forms and letters I have sent. BOTTOM LINE...THEY WANT THEIR MONEY and they don't care if they have to kill me to get it. They refuse to answer questions about their company heirarchy and will not allow me to speak to any supervisor at any time. I am a registered physical therapist here in Charlestion SC with 17 years of experience in health care. In all of my professional years of service, I have never dealt with such a disreputable company. I feel so strongly that people should be warned against joining their gym that when I am stronger, I intend to apply for a permit to picket their business. Hopefully, I can engage the local media to pick it up as a human interest story. At the very least, I will write the better business bureau.
And THAT'S what I think of Ladies Workout NFFS!
Sincerely,
Susan R King, PT

Your situation is horrible, and it is absolutely terrible that they have treated you this way. I'd be angry too. The only problem with your feedback is that you have to factor in that ladies workout express is a franchise. So by picketing the entire company it puts other business owners in a bad light. Obviously the LWE in your town is screwed up- but i've been a member for years and the staff at mine have allowed me to cancel my contract twice due to a knee injury. I guess what i'm saying is- you have a very valid reason to be angry, but not all LWE facilities are to blame. Good luck with your lawyer, but picketing Ladies workout Express just doesn't seem fair. I had a bad physical therapist once... now i've got one i love.

I joined Ladies Workout Express in North Andover, MA in Summer 2003 after a year with Curves. I have had nothing but good experiences. There is more variety and the staff is very friendly and helpful at Ladies Workout Express. If they don't have an answer for a question they find a way to get it as quick as possible. Our owner is always asking for our input. She's great. I think the person who wrote the bad review needs to move to North Andover, MA.

Our Ladies Express in Cedar Park, Texas is AWESOME! I really enjoy working out there. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They go out of their way in making sure that you are doing the machines correctly. The members are friendly and helpful as well. I definitely do not feel like a second class citizen as the first reviewer wrote. Ours is the best!

“To anyone looking for a good health club, ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by jen1225 on 12/04/2004

To anyone looking for a good health club,

I would not recommend Ladies Workout Express to any friends or family. Once you sign a contract with them they treat you like a second class citizen. They out source their billing and membership administration to a company called "National Fitness Financial Systems". Once the slaes person gets your signature and bank account number the customer service STOPS.

Trying to resolve an issue? Forget It!!

You will find absolutly no help from the local gym, the billing company, or the corporate headquarters.

The different departments will keep you calling each other with no one taking ownership or trying to simply identify the issue. If you do get a hold of someone, good luck on them actually helping.

I have tried calling customer service several times and have been treated very rudely each time. At first I thought it was an isolated incident. The first time I called I was incorrectly told to contact the local office and that customer service "Doesn't handle that!". After speaking with the local office, I was of course referred back to the customer service number. Having to call again, I was hung up on AGAIN.

Today, I called and was greeted by someone who immediately placed me on hold without identifying themselves. After about 5 minutes I was transferred back into the call bank to start all over again. Next, I spoke with "Ronnie" after waiting in line again. He advised that I had to speak with "Lydia" and placed me on hold without attempting to identify or resolve my issue. I was on hold for another 5 minutes before being transferred again to the back of the call bank. I gave up at this point. At no time did anyone take ownership of the call, offer assistance, or apologize for the inconvenience.

Their employees lack courtesy, professionalism, and proper phone etiquette. This diseased customer service has spread even to the corporate level. I have tried contacting them to elicit their assistance, but still haven't recieved any. Not even a returned call, email, letter, or rude gesture. Then again, the absence of a response also speaks volumes about the character of this company and how it chooses to handle their customers.

I would not use or recommend Ladies Workout Express in the future. It seems this company is more interested in collecting $18.71 a month from me than providing me with proper customer service. I feel that my trust has been violated by their lack of integrity when dealing with their clients.

I have had nothing but negative experiences when dealing with company representatives. I would have liked to continue to recommend this company to friends and family, but now have nothing positive to say.

I wish I had read this before... I am being treated really badly by a local Ladies Workout Express in Kentwood Mi they've had 3 managers in 4 monthes and misrepresented their contract which I signed. I specificaly stated I did not want to pay a 3rd party, the girl who no longer is there said I was paying them directly. WRONG a week later a lady called and said they bought the contract... now I'm in collections.

I agree with the other two people. I pay 29.95 amonth and on a 3 year contract. I think it shouldn't be any more then a year at a time. The circut becomes boring after awhile. I would not join again if I had it to do over.
