I joined the gym in Derby UK, and realised that once you join the gym they will make it as difficult as possible for you to cancel your membership, even if for reasons like moving to another city for job, and this is after I have finished the 12 months I signed up for the contract by the way. Also I wasn't allowed to freeze my membership either if i'm going abroad for a month of holiday. They just want as much money out of you as possible without shame!
They basically shut every possible way and make the cancellation process as long and expensive as possible. you cannot transfer the account to someone, if you are moving city then you need to show proof and if they have the gym in the city you are going then they won't let you cancel and only let you transfer your membership to the other of their gym, and if you insist to cancel you will need to write a letter and post it to America and you will still need to pay during that period, it will take 1 or 2 months so you pay 80 pounds fee anyway. It is a longer process than getting a job as an UK PM. My advise is to think 1000 times before you join and knowing clearly and full about how you can get out of your membership if one day you don't need it anymore.
