“Looks can be deceiving”

After joining DW for 6 months at the end of my University degree I felt I was on to a good deal. The staff seemed nice, the gym was nice, and the rate wasn't too expensive if I got the off peak membership. Unfortunately, this wasn't so. During my time at DW (Canterbury) often the equipment (Esp Hot tubs) were 'undergoing maintenance' and facilities such as the pool were freezing. The real problem however, came when I wanted to leave. 2 Months before the end of my membership I asked one of the 'helpful' staff members how to go about cancelling my membership and was told that a month before the expiry I would be sent an email explaining the process. After no such email had arrived I went back into the club and asked them how I could cancel as I hadn't received an email. I was told that member of staff was wrong and there was no email, in addition, as I had failed to submit my cancelation form before the beginning of the month I would be charged for an entire extra month. Even after protesting about this fact, the member of staff refused to do anything about this other than say the member of staff had been mistaken so now I am being charged an extra month for a facility that wasn’t worth it in the first place. My advice if you are thinking of joining this gym is that it may look very nice at first but listen to the advice of people who have been burned by DW and join one of the less flashy but reliable gyms in your area.

Also as an ex-member off staff I can say the same about DW Canterbury. The management are rude, unprofessional, ignorant and very lazy. I understand the Head Office plan and it works very well. HIre undereducated people, give them a bit more money (but not a proper manager wage of course) and the illusion of power and you can control them like puppets.
The hard workers earning their bonuses and they are threatening them like a doormat. No respect at all. Technically they are hiring childs as managers without work experience or qualifications and without common sense of course. Bullying, victimization, harrasment and discrimination are on daily basis. The staff not brave enough to do anything with them. Could be useful to speak with journalist and lawyers and see what can we do with this inhumiliating situation.
