“Staff couldn't care less (Swimming Pool)”

★☆☆☆☆

written by coasterjamie on 29/12/2013

Basingstoke Aquadrome was once a very enjoyable place, with three flumes and people enjoying themselves everywhere you looked. These are just shadows of the past now, as in the past few years the swimming pool has gone downhill to a point where it is not worth visiting at all. The staff at the complex are abysmal. The staff at reception are friendly enough, but they lie through their teeth to their customers. On many occasions I have phoned up to ask whether all flumes are operating, been told that they are and then arrived to find one or more of them closed. However, on this occasion (28th December 2013) it was actually the lady at reception who lied to me. I asked if all flumes were operating, she told me "yes everything is open." On entering the pool we discovered that the Space Bowl flume (the main reason for visiting) was closed and had been all day, because they didn't have enough staff. This sort of experience is not a one off, and has happened on many occasions. I don't think we have had any visits in the past 4 or so years where all the flumes have been open. To add to this, they have removed the double rafts on the two raft slides which has taken away a lot of the enjoyment from them. The lifeguards are awful, making you feel more like a burden than a customer. Avoid this place at all costs, it is a shadow of it's former self and is not worth visiting at all. It really is a shame.

“Third world swimming services...”

So I was kind of pleased to see I'm not the only one shocked by the poor quality of the Aquadrome in Basingstoke, what prompted me to write this review, although I've been saying to myself for ages I would, was today when I tried to call to see if the pool is overcrowded, which it is sometimes on a sunny day and you have to wait around 30 minutes or more to get in, I got no answer on the phone, which happens 2 in 3 times I call. As already stated I've never been there once when all flumes are open but worse then this 1 our of something like 7 showers were broken, myself, my baby son, my 6 year old and my wife had to queue for one show, shivering cold. The staff on the whole are rude, plain and simple, if not rude then completely indifferent, this includes the life guards who act like some kind of village militia or power hungry mall cops. As suggested there are cracks all over the place, the changing rooms are rarely visited by a mop or even a member of staff. The average age of the staff is between 17 and 20 I imagine. Avoid at all costs, maybe if enough of us avoid this place they'll invest some money in refurbishing it, maybe. Basingstoke Resident.

“ruined”

The gym has been re furbished recently. That's a bad thing. It used to be quite good. No frills, just lots of metalwork, discrete places for different exercises, quite nicely planned and laid out. they redid the whole thing. the main thing to notice now, is just how much empty flat floor space there is now. Half the equipment has been removed. The layout now is abysmmal. just a mess. no set rooms for different things eg floor work. There are no free exercise rooms, all the equipment is just dumped all over the place. One of the worst things is that the new layout seems to have been planned only to be a work of art if you are on the ceiling, looking down, in a lovely curly wavey shape. The designers main aim seems to have been "lets make this place upmarket, not by making it better, but by putting the machines in a funny arrangement. and it purely seems to be designed around 'being on display'. Different exercise types are next to each other, so whatever you're doing, you will be next to someone who is doing something completely different. This gym will not have what you want. half the kits been removed, and its been replaced by half the stuff, and a lot of that stuff is terrible. there are rubber band machines that break, and only one set of proper stack equipment, so not enough to use when its busy. Theyve completely ruined it, basically. go somewhere else.

“A shadow of it's former self”

★★☆☆☆

What was once an amazing swimming pool complex has now gone downhill completley. With three great water rides including a Space bowl flume you will be tempted, but nowadays you would be lucky even if one of these flumes was open. Also, the rapids are no longer switched on and the area around the pool and the pool itself is dirty and there are cracks in the floor which cause cuts, resulting in blood all over the flume stairs which no staff ever clean. This used to be a great pool when it was properly maintained as it was a fun experience and the water flumes were all open and fun. Overall if you still want to visit now (and I advise not) call them first to see what is actually open, although they often lie like they have done to me once and I have travelled a long way to find one flume open, and I ask and they say "It's been like this all day." Then I tell them what they told me on the phone and they always say "Well actually im not sure if they were open..." It is frustrating because what was once an amazing day out is now a cheap, tacky pool where nothing is ever open and the staff couldn't care less. Stay clear of it.
