“Self-facilitating media node to IT monkey”

Written on: 08/06/2012

After nearly ten years working in Consumer Tech PR, having established a reasonably successful career, I had begun to wonder about whether or not I actually enjoyed what I was doing, don’t get me wrong I loved some of the work, but didn’t feel that it was for me anymore, and some of my previous employers would probably agree that my heart just wasn’t in it (or I just didn't give a **** anymore)
I decided to take on a new challenge and pursue my interest within the IT sector. A weird choice I know, but given my background in technology and gaming it felt like a natural step.
So where does one start? Qualifications? Work Experience? Volunteering? I decided that I needed to get some qualifications, went ahead and booked myself in for a an IT course, the COMPTIA A with a dodgy IT training 'college' in town, to be fair there were petty good, when they could be bothered to turn up, and when the government finally closed the place down, I really did think my IT help desk dream would be put on the back burner.
Having passed my COMPTIA A I thought it'd be plain sailing. I was wrong. I was finding it depressingly hard to get people to look at my CV without laughing, with no real hands on IT experience and a basic qualification my CV was often overlooked and/or ignored.
Then I found Just IT. Their proposition was a very tempting one, gain a couple of qualifications & hands on experience & a Job Guarantee… all for a moderate fee (£3K). I don’t know how many other companies can actually guarantee a job once you complete their course or your money back!
I enrolled in Just-IT’s Network Professional Programme - A fast paced and comprehensive course, specifically targeted at getting me the right skills & knowledge (the ones employers actually want)
- true to their word, I’m now a fully paid member of a well-known IT consultancy, working across a number of brilliant clients, with some brilliant people.
This is a career switch that really should have made a few years ago to be honest, Just IT were just what I needed…
