We had a trip to Lintzford Bridge Garden Centre, just south of Rowlands Gill on the road to Consett in Tyneside/Gateshead area. The centre is set back from the road in a bend in the river in a lovely rural location. It is quite a small, privately run centre that has been open only for a few years. The centre is well stocked - with a wide range of items and a coffee shop that has wonderful cakes for coffee! The staff are very helpful - they are not rushed or tearing around, but seem to have time to help. They seem to know many of the locals as regular customers, if only for the cafe. We visited in May and the plant section was in full bloom - no second quality ones or half dead that you sometimes see. Definitely worth a visit if a little off the beaten track.
