“Cricket coaching in Melbourne, Australia (2011/2012)”

Written on: 11/10/2014 by mjteasdale (1 review written)

In October 2011 I arrived in Melbourne to begin a 3 month cricket coaching programme. Within a month of my arrival I was to extend my programme to 6 months. I'll admit that writing reviews is not my forte but I've tried to give it some structure all the same. The Accommodation: I was in the unusual position of having stayed in both types of accommodation. For the first three months I stayed in the the premium accommodation, a really rather nice serviced apartment shared between up to 6 Sport… Read Full Review

“Absolutely amazing! Had the time of my life! ”

Written on: 10/10/2014 by Monique94 (1 review written)

My sport lived course was for 6 months and I was tennis coaching. From the moment I arrived in Australia I knew I had made the right decision, everyone was so lovely and SL had organised everything very well. I never felt alone as I was constantly with other participants or the lovely staff running SL! I had an absolute blast and would do anything to do it all again! I learnt so much about coaching, organisation, myself!!! And most of all about life, It really was an amazing life experience! I… Read Full Review

“Play Tennis - Melbourne”

Written on: 20/08/2014

Playing tennis in Melbourne was a fantastic experience. I was really surprised by how quickly the coaches at the National Tennis Centre and Rod Laver Arena knew my name including the receptionists and how welcoming both the coaches and members were. The programme was extremely flexible so you could do as much or as little training as you liked which enabled you to fit in all the tourist activities. I attended nearly 40 workouts over the month I was there and went to the gym roughly 3 times a… Read Full Review

I did a Sport Lived program in Brisbane Australia and had an incredible time. Booking a Sport Lived program proved to be a great decision - everything was organised for me when I arrived and the staff were really helpful. I made friends really quickly because of Sport Lived and got to do loads of awesome things during my time in Australia. The training and facilities was also world class - would recommend!… Read Full Review

“Dunedin - cricket program”

Written on: 20/01/2014 by TomPorter90 (1 review written)

Playing cricket abroad had always been a dream of mine and I can safely say that my time spent in Dunedin did not disappoint. Betty Mason and the Sport Lived staff were great throughout the booking process and once I got to Dunedin Betty was very helpful - she provided things like a bus pass and a map of the town which made the first week a lot less stressful than it could have been. The trips provided by Sport Lived, such as tickets to the All Blacks test against Australia and a visit to the… Read Full Review

“Awesome Experience - Highly Recommended”

Written on: 03/09/2013

The main aim of me going on my football coaching placement in Melbourne was to give my CV a boost and to help me develop as a coach and I feel I acheived that to a level I couldn't have expected to have done so - to a point I am know in employment in the UK as a football coach and I couldn't have done it without this placement. Greenhouse Backpackers hostel in Melbourne was great, as it gave you the opporunity to develop social groups with both sport lived participants and other like-minded… Read Full Review

“Tennis in Melbourne”

Written on: 06/08/2013

I had a fantastic time playing tennis in Australia. Being able to play the sport I love in such an awesome country and city has been something that I will never forget. The club I played at was of a high standard and I feel that the games I played and the training sessions I had have had a positive impact upon my game. My mentor was always there if required, the accommodation was safe and well located and on top of that Melbourne has a great social scene! I was very nervous at first but I am… Read Full Review

“Minus 2 stars wasn't available!”

Written on: 01/08/2013 by copperbollocks (1 review written)

Australia is great, the way in which the tennis programme is set up isn't. We were expecting 2 or 3 training sessions per week as advertised on the website along with matches every weekend. None of these promises were met which led to a very disappointing trip as far as my sports point of view is concerned especially as the amount it cost was so high... Money would have been put to better use as toilet paper. Signing you up to the local club is not good enough especially as training we were… Read Full Review

“Tennis: Play the season, what season? No matches or team.”

Written on: 01/08/2013

The programme is advertised as you will play for a team, when i arrived in Australia i thought this would happen. However we wern't put in a team, had no training squad and no matches organised throughout the 12 weeks. It wasn't there pennant team tennis season was the big problem, there team tennis didn't start until the end of April. All that happened was we were signed up to a club and offered cardio tennis, very different from team training and matches. Australia and the people I met were… Read Full Review

cant fault my mentor, there for me whenever i had an issue or a question. brilliant blend of characters, sportlived clearly dont take on any plebs! my coaching school exceeded all expectations and gave my CV a huge boost. although i will say that you need to inform us before we purchase the experiance that we will not get the quoted 10 hours a week of coaching, i averaged 8-9. in addition to that the fact that schools break up and during these times you need to help arrange alternative work or… Read Full Review

“Brisbane Cricket Academy”

Written on: 28/04/2013 by mikemooney (1 review written)

Our son went to Brisbane on an eight week cricket coaching course (which he extended to 10 weeks while he was there). There were two major features of his time in Australia on his Sports Lived holiday that we would particularly commend. Firstly, the quality of coaching he received. This was from professional (and, in some cases, international standard) coaches and covered all aspects of cricket – batting, bowling and fielding. The coaching sessions were intensive, often 3 times a day, and… Read Full Review

“Sport Lived Melbourne Cricket Gap Year Review”

Written on: 24/04/2013 by LukeSpears (1 review written)

Just a quick review of my experience at The Sport Lived accommodation was great, in a great location, really good facilities. Good to have two bathrooms, a kitchen etc.. The socials were good and in my opinion well spaced, a month apart was fine, as there is a natural divide in terms of geography between the hostel and the flat (where i was staying). The cricket club (South Yarra Cricket Club) that was selected for myself and the flatmates was brilliant, the standard was good, not the hardest… Read Full Review

“My Sport Lived Experience”

Written on: 24/04/2013 by andrewmooneey (1 review written)

My time in Australia was the best time of my life. Playing cricket everyday in the academy was amazing and the coaches became our friends and mentors. I have vastly improved my game and I have my coaches to thank for that.I played for one of the teams at University of Queensland club and the people were friendly and sociable. During one of my games, kangaroos stopped play. How Aussie is that! My accomodation in the University was perfect as it was seconds away from where I was playing cricket… Read Full Review

Accommodation in Melbourne was excellent. Brilliant location and really friendly and helpful staff. Coaching placement was awesome in a great school with keen and talented students. Plenty of time to party with loads to do but plenty of work too to earn. Sport lived sorted out all the big sporting event tickets and rod was always there as a father figure to help if needed. One of the best things I've ever done! I was slightly unsure about playing cricket abroad even though it was something that I always have wanted to do, until I found sport lived. What a fantastic company that provided for my every need whether in the UK or Australia once I had arrived. I was living and training within the university campus which I couldn't have asked for more. “Parental point of view”

Written on: 05/04/2013 by jessicacobb (1 review written)

From a parental point of view we felt that our son had just enough back up and support from the local mentor in Melbourne and UK team to have someone to call on if there was a problem but plenty of space to make his own way and enjoy the adventure. Even though the initial cost outlay might seem high we feel that he got excellent value for money and was provided with exactly what he had been promised - good clean value for money accommodation, tickets for all the major sporting events, advice on… Read Full Review

“My Summer in Melbourne”

Written on: 04/04/2013

I spent a fantastic summer playing cricket in Melbourne on a 6 month Sport Lived programme. I stayed in the premium accomodation in South Yarra, which was a great location a couple of train stops outside the CBD and just one from the Sports Precinct which is home to the MCG, Rod Laver Arena and AAMI Park. The apartment itself was very comfortable and we all got on extremely well, so we had plenty of fun. I went to Australia to play some good quality cricket and Sport Lived arranged for me to… Read Full Review
