“I enjoyed my time on the Sport Lived Brisbane rugby...”

Written on: 02/12/2016 by Hansen289 (1 review written)

I enjoyed my time on the Sport Lived Brisbane rugby programme. There are a few things which should be addressed however. Firstly, when I arrived and was given my blue Go Card which had $100 on it, I thought this would be enough to last my the majority of my programme. However I used that up within the first 2-3 weeks of being in Aus, and then had to top up a further two times for the remaining part of my stay. Sport Lived would have communicated a rough idea of how long they money was going to… Read Full Review

Hi

Thanks a lot for writing a review on your Sport Lived experience. I’m pleased that you enjoyed your rugby programme in Brisbane.

Thanks for providing feedback on the amount of credit that was loaded on to the travel pass you received at the start of your programme. In response to this, all customers undertaking Sport Lived programmes from September 2016 receive an introductory travel pass that lasts 1 month.

I sincerely apologise if our staff in the UK did not make you would need to play 6 league games to be eligible to play in Finals & that this would not be possible because of the start date of your programme. This was a mistake on our part & I’m sorry for the inconvenience this caused.

Thanks for your comment on completing your Rugby CV. In Brisbane this year, we did send all of our rugby players to the same club. However, this has not always been the case as we have relationships with a number of rugby clubs in Brisbane. In addition, we need people undertaking Rugby Academy programmes to complete a Rugby CV so we can send this information to the Rugby Academy coaches.

Thanks so much for undertaking a Sport Lived trip. I hope your rugby continues to go well at university.

Very best wishes

“Melbourne Cricket, Full season, 14/15 Review ”

Written on: 16/10/2016 by BryantPayne (1 review written)

My decision to go on a Sport Lived programme to Melbourne is probably the best decision I have ever made. An overall fantastic experience that I enjoyed every minute of! The staff were extremely helpful in aiding any problems I encountered (very few) as well as helping me find my way with their extensive knowledge and expertise. The Cricket club I was placed out was perfect, great facilities at the right standard and extremely good location. Accommodation at Quest, Prahran was second to none… Read Full Review

“My gap year with Sports Lived”

Written on: 01/10/2016 by Rayk489 (1 review written)

My gap year with Sports Lived was one of the best experiences of my life. The great service started from the UK the idea of a gap year in Australia was just getting itself into the pipe line. Staff members would give you heaps of help and the low down on all their programmes and destinations so you could make the right choice for yourself. I chose to have my gap year in Brisbane Australia. When arriving at Brisbane Airport I already felt welcome from sports lived staff members greeting me and… Read Full Review

“Loved Sport Lived”

Written on: 24/09/2016 by MDG123 (1 review written)

Our 18 year old son undertook a 6 month programme with Sport Lived, playing rugby in Brisbane, Australia. The whole programme from start to finish, was very professionally organised. In the run up to his departure, his Sport Lived account regularly prompted him to do all the things he needed to do, such as getting a visa, organising and communicating his travel plans, unlocking his mobile phone ready for use in Australia and even de-registering from the RFU and registering with the ARFU. “Great rugby experience!”

Written on: 22/09/2016

The rugby academy in Brisbane is a great was to improve your rugby and make great new friends for life. The coaches are fantastic and the other staff are really friendly and helpful. It was great that we got to play matches at the weekend aswel to improve the skills we learned at the academy during the week but it would've been good to get a bit more game time. Over all a brilliant experience and very worth while… Read Full Review

“A1 fantastic experience for keen sports players ”

Written on: 31/08/2016 by Sarah1965a (1 review written)

We had a slightly shaky start where we had booked a hockey academy trip to South Africa which was then cancelled with only about 4 weeks notice (and during the stressful time of A levels). However I have to say the team at Sportlived bent over backwards to relieve that disappointment and rearranged his trip so he went to Melbourne instead. Although he was arriving too late to join the Academy they did allow him to join for the last two weeks which was a superb experience. When the academy was… Read Full Review

“Best Experience I've Had”

Written on: 25/08/2016 by JayleneMcGrath (1 review written)

I flew to Melbourne at the end of June to begin my one month with Sport Lived and playing for Melbourne University Soccer Club. I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I didnt know how it would be joining late into the programme and only having a short time to play football, as well as finding the time to see as many of the city sights as I could. When I first arrived I was greeted by a Sport Lived employee and taken to Space Hotel. The next day we arranged to meet and get to know some of the… Read Full Review

“My rugby experience with Sport lived in Brisbane,...”

Written on: 09/08/2016 by fraserberesford (1 review written)

I am 17 years old and I decided to do a Sport Lived programme which involved playing rugby at UQ academy in Brisbane, Australia. I am going to give a very honest review. The good things that I have found on this programme are firstly the academy. The training sessions are intense and very productive with top-class coaches and elite players. I wasn't a special rugby player back in England. I was very typical having played for just school and a rugby club, but when I came here, I, like others at… Read Full Review

Hi

Thanks so much for your feedback on your recent Rugby Academy programme.

I’m really pleased you enjoyed the training & the coaching that you received at the Rugby Academy. It’s also great to hear you enjoyed the socials that we arranged & that you found our staff in Brisbane helpful.

I completely take on board the points you raised on how the programme could be improved. For future customers, we could look at arranging for them to live closer to the Rugby Academy which would reduce travel time. We could also try to arrange for multiple under 18 customers to live at the same homestay which would helpful make the accommodation more sociable.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review.

Very best wishes for the future.

“Not worth the money at all”

Written on: 22/07/2016 by Beatricey298 (1 review written)

The idea here is brilliant but was the biggest waste of money I have ever been subjected to. I paid sport lived 5500 pounds and in return I got a hostel that was overpriced and ill-equipped. I was promised a fully working kitchen yet there wasn't a cooker at all and out of the little hobs there were to cook on about a quarter of them actually worked. The showers were cold on one of the floors and the hand dryers in the toilet didn't work the whole time I was there. I worked out that I paid… Read Full Review

Hi

Thanks for taking the time to write a review.

Firstly, I’m really sorry if you’ve not enjoyed your programme and you don’t feel you received value for money.

Thanks for highlighting the issues regarding your accommodation & I am sorry that you encountered them. I was in Melbourne with my colleague in May 2016 where we visited a number of Standard Accommodation providers with our staff in Melbourne.

I know that customers who were in Melbourne between March & September 2016 who were not happy at their current accommodation were given the option to move to a different Standard Accommodation provider which was also located in the city centre which we felt provided better quality accommodation.

I know that quite a few people declined this offer because they didn’t want to leave the friends they had made at their accommodation. Whilst I understand this decision, we were slightly disappointed as we felt we could have moved everyone over to the new accommodation provider where they would have stayed at better accommodation and been with lots of Sport Lived customers.

Setting the price of programmes is always slightly tricky as we need to consider a number of factors. We currently have 4 staff in Melbourne and we want to price the programmes so that we can employ good staff and pay them enough to attract them to work for the business. We also want to make sufficient revenue so we have a business which is financially viable and stable.

You undertook a longer mini season playing programme. We do structure the prices so that on a cost per week basis, the full season programmes provide the best value. This is done intentionally as we want to try and encourage people to undertake Full Season playing programmes where they can play for their club for the entire season up to and including end of season Grand Finals.

I hope you have some fond memories of your time in Melbourne.

Thank you so much for undertaking a Sport Lived programme and I wish you all the very best for the future.

Best wishes

“Do it Yourself without being overcharged”

Written on: 14/06/2016 by mikabrown (1 review written)

The course looks great from the outside but if you are really looking for a sporting gap year abroad, specifically Melbourne, then you are better off doing it yourself. The organisation between the owners of the company in england and the sports co-ordinator in melbourne is dreadful and they do not work. It felt at times as though you were back at school when thats exactly what you wanted to leave behind. For popular sports like rugby, cricket or netball then contact a club directly yourself… Read Full Review

“I PLAYED THE SEASON SO I KNOW.”

Written on: 25/04/2016 by Preston494 (1 review written)

To put this straight. I spent the last 3 months undertaking what was supposed to be a tennis/hockey/netball programme in Melbourne. Here is the email I felt I had to send at the end of the programme after calls were ignored from my parents and every other parent who's child was on the programme wrote some form of complaint. "Firstly I would like to say that I have made some of the greatest friendships on this programme and secondly that Melbourne was the ideal city in which to hold it… Read Full Review

Such an accurate review! I emailed throughout my 6 month netball programme in March (to September 2015). Rarely gaining a response, when I did it was lack lustre and disappointing. When I returned home from travelling in February 2016 I again tried to contact the company and found I had to chase them constantly!

“Dunedin cricket.”

Went to Dunedin for 6 months between September 2014 and March 2015. Could not have wished for a better time. The accommodation was fantastic, a real home from home, and the guide ensured I had a great time. Her vast knowledge of the local area meant I did not have a dull moment in Dunedin. From visiting the Penguin sanctuary, to the really cool road trip to Oamaru, the activities we did kept me on my toes, not to mention having enormous fun in the process! The whole experience was brilliant, one I will never forget. From the minute Betty (the sportlived mentor) picked me up from the airport I found dunedin a home from home. The hostel we stayed in was also amazing. I played cricket from the start of the season until mid November, the club play senior, 2nd and 3rd grade dunedin cricket so accommodate all abilities. The team are a great group of lads who enjoy playing cricket and are really welcoming, like most kiwis I have met. There are nets on… Read Full Review

“Cricket coaching in Melbourne, Australia (2011/2012)”

Written on: 11/10/2014 by mjteasdale (1 review written)

In October 2011 I arrived in Melbourne to begin a 3 month cricket coaching programme. Within a month of my arrival I was to extend my programme to 6 months. I'll admit that writing reviews is not my forte but I've tried to give it some structure all the same. The Accommodation: I was in the unusual position of having stayed in both types of accommodation. For the first three months I stayed in the the premium accommodation, a really rather nice serviced apartment shared between up to 6 Sport… Read Full Review
