True immersion into Senegalese Life

I spent 4 weeks volunteering with Projects Abroad on their High-School special program. It was fantastically informative, and structured well. First and foremost we were able to enjoy not one but 2 forms of rewarding work; teaching and renovating. I enjoyed both aspects, and they were made especially amazing by the on the ground staff support I received; theirs and the students feedback made me feel proud of myself and like I had done some useful, meaningful work.

In addition to this, I adored the weekend excursions to the Lampeuhl Desert near Saint Louis and the trip to the Île de Gorée; an exploration of an Island first westernised and used to harbour and ship off slaves in transit by the Portuguese, later taken over by the French, as part of their colonisation of Sénégal; which in itself was truly moving and once again we were left in very capable hands by the company.

All in all, I truly enjoyed my trip, and wish to continue my love affair with the 'pays de teranga' very soon.
