My Project in the Galapagos Islands

I did a 4 week teaching project on the Galapagos Islands. I found Projects Abroad after a quick Google search as I was looking for a worthwhile way to spend my summer vacation. The website was very easy to navigate and they offer a huge range of projects, destinations and durations of projects. Projects Abroad were always quick to answer any questions I had and when I first showed interest they gave me all the necessary information about the placement in the Galapagos that I was looking at. This made me feel much more confident as they commented on the type of work I would be doing, the cultural differences Ecuador offers and other volunteers stories from their time there.

They arranged my flights for me at my request which took a lot of pressure off of me. I stayed with a wonderful host family who gave me 3 (incredibly large) meals a day with a variety of Ecuadorian specialties every couple of days. The school I worked at was more of an after school class but the children were eager to learn and I taught a great range of ages which helped me refine my teaching styles as I could test different methods on each class. The work was very hands-on and enjoyable. I still had the whole day to do all the wonderful sightseeing and animal spotting that can be done on San Cristobal as well as island hopping on my weekends off.

Overall Projects Abroad were helpful throughout the lead up to my project and during it, they were constantly asking if everything was ok for me and had a wide support network on the island to deal with any issues. I thoroughly recommend both them and the Galapagos Islands to anyone looking for an incredible and worthwhile trip!
