I had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this programme.
The handbook we had before was extremely helpful and informative, giving a comprehensive list of our kitlist. I chose to purchase the 'essentials' bag, including the PGMY t shirt - it is useful, however I would not recommend this if you are staying in Delhi during the colder months as I was (Jan, Feb), as the majority of items are unnecessary for the climate.
Vishy and Kranti are very welcoming and friendly - I felt welcome as soon as I arrived! They are both supremely helpful giving advice regarding the weekend travelling trips, and seem to genuinely want the volunteers to fully explore and see India - visits to a Monkey temple and Bollywood film were organised by them, which we would not have seen otherwise!
Accomodation was great, comfortable and sufficient :)
I saw a range of medical procedures and environments while out there, including the range of private hospitals to the slum clinic, which was invaluable experience.
Of course, undertaking PGMY, rather than travelling independently, is more expensive - for me, I chose it largely because I was travelling by myself, and also because the medical programme looked fantastic. I wasn't disappointed on either count - I met great people out there and definitely got to see a plethora of interesting cases.
Loved it there, 5 weeks wasn't enough! If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me more! El xx

I'm also considering going there over January and was wondering how the weather was. I've read a wide range regarding the averages then. Was it cold enough to need a winter coat on average or as someone not used to the extremely hot months in India was carrying a light jacket enough?
