I just got back from Nepal where I spent a productive month helping out at a monastery school.
As a lone, middle aged woman, it could have been daunting, but the PMGY and partner organisation made it smooth for me.
From pick up at the airport to drop off at the end, there were no big glitches.
As well as Nepali lessons (the teacher must have despaired at my dull mindedness!) there were sightseeing visits before the start of the placement, so I felt acclimatised before immersing in the task in hand.
The only thing that I wasn't happy about was actually nothing to do with the organisation, but I found that some volunteers , from various organisations, didn't feel the need to help out when they got to the placements and treated it as if it was a holiday! It made me feel a bit embarrassed to be European at times....
If I did this again, I'd not take any supplies with me but buy them there as I'd have got more for my money that way. I found a local place selling school supplies cheaper and better than I got from Amazon!
