I went to Cambodia through PMGY for two weeks. I was based in Phnom Penh and volunteered at a school during this time, teaching English to kids in year 1. It was an absolutely amazing experience to have the opportunity to do this and also to learn about Cambodian culture - one of the reasons I loved the country is because it is so different to life in Australia. Although I was not there for long, we managed to get out of the city and stay in a rural village as well as visit the temples in Siem Reap.
All of the staff involved in the programme were very friendly and supportive. It was a bit hard to know what to teach at first, but the kids are so welcoming and inquisitive that I soon became more comfortable with standing out the front of 45 little people! I would've liked to stay at least a week longer because I felt I didn't have enough time at the school. Overall a wonderful experience that I would like to have again.
