Zanzibar Rocks!!
What an island....so little did I know and soo much have I learned. Our hostfamily was great and Philemon, the Khaya coordinator, made sure we were well looked after and in the weekends he planned outings, snorkelling trips, we went diving and visited some awesome beaches in the North.
The kids and the school was challenging at times due to the language but I loved every minute of my time there and I hope I left something behind for them to remember me by!
The booking with Khaya went easy and was personal, what I really liked is that you communicate with the same person and that she responded within a day. It far exceded my expectations as Khaya is much cheaper then most organizations and I thought that would also show in their services, but nothing of that. Cheaper and good service; I would really recommend this project to anybody.

Great Times With Khaya
I did a Khaya voluntary project in PE, South Africa, from Oct 2009 untill february 2011. They let me choose the project myself when I got there; they showed me around in the Walmer Township where a lot of different projects could be done and I choose the one that fits me the most.
I lived in a house with other volunteers and students who were there for an internship. I think that is what I liked the most; I did this GREAT work during the day and met a lot of local people. But I also met a lot of people from all over the world to live with and to hang out with in the weekends and evenings. I think I was very lucky to meet so many great people in such a short time!
I also went to a lot of weekendtrips organized by Khaya itself. Another way to see more of the country and meet a lot of people ! I think these weekends are not exepensive for what you get...
One of the best weekends for me was the CHEETAH weekend; we went hunting with cheetahs!! You could just walk next to the cheetah and after hours of walking he captured a prey! Amazing to see this happen right in front of you!
So I had a great time and I can recommend Khaya, especially if you go abroad for for the first time on your own!

Khaya Volunteers Africa!!!
I volunteered with Khaya Volunteers Africa. My placement was in South Africa – I had a fantastic time! The organisation delivered what it promised, I got to the airport and there was someone waiting for me with a ‘welcome’ pack including a free sim-card, map and travel brochures. I was living in a beautiful house in a leafy neighbourhood with other volunteers and just rented a car to get to my project. The support was incredible and also the fact that Khaya is based in the country itself meant that I could pop into their offices anytime and speak to the staff there.I think I would have wanted them to drive me back to the airport on my depature (this I had to organise myself)...haha yes asking for a little too much maybe, but I would definitely recommend Khaya Volunteers! Affordable and they keep their promises! x
