I was in Ecuador for 10 weeks on The Phoenix Project and everyone who comes to a project like GVI have many different motives and agendas all of which are personal. I came trying to enforce an epiphany. I believed that I would want to go into teaching after this, and even though I loved working with all of the children, especially my class, Norma, Myrim, Raymi, Aurelio, Atahualpa, Irma and Byron. I discovered that I am not going to be going into teaching but loved the teaching experiences I participated in. I worked with some incredibly talented young people who had such imaginations and creativity and who could connect with the children and teach them and I learnt so much working with them and with my class.
The language was a challenge but I found myself doing what came naturally which was just getting involved and trying. Plus when you are immersed in the community you learn as you go and everything seems to work. In many cases both volunteer and child are speaking spanish as a second language so everyday is a school day for everyone!
The ten weeks I have spent in Ecuador have been amazing on many different levels. I have met some incredibly talented people and people who have a vision and drive that will make these projects succeed. The commitment and desire for success is tangible amongst the project managers, their staff and it is infectious which is why I would like to come back.

There are no barriers to what this project can offer the three communities we support in nutrition, education, and sustainable help around building Coy Houses and cows to support our older graduates.

I would recommend the project to anyone at any age.
