“Just what the doctor ordered”

Written on: 01/07/2014 by MaddyJG (1 review written)

I completed a 3 week placement with Gap Medics in Chiang Mai in January 2014. I spent time in 3 areas; neurology, OB/GYN and paediatrics. It was an incredible experience that reaffirmed my desire to study Medicine. As an undergraduate science student the Gap Medics program allowed me to gain an insight into clinically applying my knowledge. The doctors, nurses and other health professionals were helpful, encouraging and welcoming which made for a positive learning environment. I was… Read Full Review

“Incredible Month in Iringa!”

Written on: 09/06/2014 by Floyd340 (1 review written)

I highly recommend Gap Medics to anyone interested in/studying in the health field. I went to Iringa for a month earlier this year and had placements in obstetrics/gynaecology, paediatrics, surgery and also general medicine at the local health clinic. I enjoyed every week so much and learnt a phenomenal amount about clinical skills, communication and particularly about infectious diseases in Africa. My stay at the Rock House was incredible! The staff were very friendly and helpful, the… Read Full Review

“Adventuring in Thailand, plus great hospital experience!”

Written on: 09/06/2014 by LexiSwanson12 (1 review written)

I had an incredible time with Gap Medics in Chiang Mai in February this year. I gained more insight and understanding of what is required to study nursing, and I learnt so much. I got to observe medical procedures in a variety of wards, as well as a grand total of 20 surgeries! The Thai nurses and doctors were very obliging too, and were happy to answer my questions. The thing that really made the trip amazing was the chance I got to meet some great people, from all over the world, who were as… Read Full Review

“a trip well spent”

Written on: 09/06/2014 by Damon479 (1 review written)

I chose to go to Chiang Mai in Thailand early this year for 2 weeks, i was luckily to be able to get my 2 preferences, neurology and general surgery. Seeing as i am a neuroscience and pharmacology major, the neurological hospital was amazing. I learnt a lot about the neurological assessment, the drugs they used, and the highlight of the week was witnessing a neurosurgeon remove a large tumour in the brain. In the general surgery week, i observed many surgeries, ranging from orthopaedics, many… Read Full Review

“Great experience”

Written on: 09/06/2014 by Salvadoro392 (1 review written)

I didn't think going on this trip would change me so much! I got to learn so much about how hospitals work and got to see interesting surgeries and learn about what I was really interested in. It wasn't just a great experience to work in the hospital and see so many surgeries, but I also got to learn so much about myself. I found out more about so many other cultures after meeting people from all over the world. I learned how to get by in a new country and understand others. It truly was an… Read Full Review

“Absolutely life changing”

Written on: 09/06/2014 by ElenaHumphries260 (1 review written)

I chose to go to Tanzania for my placement because I thought the culture would be different from anything else I've ever experienced. It certainly did not disappoint! I had my 17th birthday in the morogoro house and the staff were so caring, they even made me a cake :) because I was with 9 other people who were the same age as me we all because like brothers and sisters, and the staff became like our much older siblings! They were some of the most outgoing people I've ever met and you really… Read Full Review

“Dentistry work experience in Morogoro”

Written on: 07/06/2014 by arhope (1 review written)

I spent a week in Morogoro in February and I can easily say it was one of the best weeks of my life. Having work experience in a hospital is an experience in itself let alone in Africa! The staff at the hospital were very friendly and welcoming, they explained everything about the procedures they were carrying out and answered any questions that I had. The gap medics team both at home and in Morogoro were so helpful and made sure I got the best experience out of my trip! I recommend Gap Medics… Read Full Review

“Amazing, worthwhile experience”

Written on: 07/06/2014 by Suzierix (1 review written)

I was lucky enough to participate in a medical trip in Thailand for two weeks with Gap Medics. The staff were so helpful and friendly, it was really sad having to leave them at the end! One week per department was the perfect amount of time, there was always at least one English-speaking doctor or nurse and they really went out of their way to make sure we had a worthwhile time. I was quite impressed with the freedom we had to go and explore when we weren't on placement. I'd definitely… Read Full Review

“Amazing Experience”

Written on: 06/06/2014 by Lelita (1 review written)

I had the privilege of going to Morogoro, Tanzania for two weeks in January. I would go back tomorrow! I went there unsure of my career aspirations and came back determined to pursue medicine in the hope of becoming a surgeon in rural/remote areas throughout the world. The staff and doctors were amazing. Personally, the best thing about this experience is the knowledge and stories the doctors shared. At no time did I feel my safety was threatened. Thank you to all GapMedics personnel for giving… Read Full Review

Due to the fact that I live in the UK it is difficult to find any type of nursing/ medical experience. So by finding this GapMedics course it has enabled me to get into my first choice of university. even though it's a bit expensive it is worth every penny due to the fact that I am now heading off to university to study nursing. it is definitely worth taking time out of my gap year to participate in such a great course. You get to meet all different kinds of people and are able to interact with… Read Full Review

I travelled to Tanzania for 2 weeks in January and stayed in the Morogoro house! The staff and project managers there were amazing! So kind and funny, they were always there if you needed to ask something or need help with anything! The hospital experience was life changing, the doctors are so knowledgable and welcoming. I did Gap Medics for three weeks in Morogoro, Tanzania in January 2014. While I was there I got to experience a number of fields in the hospital including: Internal medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology amongst others. It was an incredible experience, definitely something I will never forget. You have the opportunity to gain hands on experience like no other compared to here in Australia including delivering babies and also witness healthcare in a resource poor area. “1 Week in Morogoro”

Written on: 04/06/2014 by Jhurring (1 review written)

I wasn't sure what to expect before I got to Tanzania, but when I got there it was both better and worse than I thought it would be. The house was amazing, and all of the staff were so friendly, one of the best bits was the food. Breakfast and dinner were provided and were usually traditional Tanzanian meals. The hospital was best bit, I spent most of my time in paediatrics which was so interesting as you see a range diseases and problems like malaira, HIV and malnutrition. Surgery was the most… Read Full Review

“Really fantastic experience!”

Written on: 04/06/2014

I was really nervous about going when I applied but as soon as I got to Tanzania the staff made us feel so welcome. The hospital placements were great as we weren't having to stay in the same place all week, we got to see all parts if the hospital. I also got to do a night shift which I really enjoyed! Although I was only there a week I learnt a lot during that time and the time back at the house with everyone else was just as good… Read Full Review

The two weeks I spent in Thailand were two of the best weeks of my life. Shadowing Doctors in the hospitals was an experience that I never thought would be possible at the age of 17 and it was nothing like anything that I could have done in England. It was brilliant culturally as well. The food at the Gap Medics House was really good and all te staff were very helpful, fun and friendly. I couldn't have asked for better hospitality. The city of Chiang Mai was lovely, there was so much to do… Read Full Review

The two week medical placement I did with Gap Medics was one of the best experiences of my life. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. From the hospital placement in Neurology and Paediatrics, to the elephant riding and bungee jumping to the amazing people I met there. I learnt so much from the people around me.
