“Worthwhile + loads of fun”

Written on: 23/07/2014

Azafady is a fantastic charity. The work they do is locally-focused and sustainable, and the important projects you'll be doing are balanced by some incredible things to see and do on your days off. In my 10 weeks as a Pioneer with this NGO, I always felt that I was contributing to something really valuable, whilst enjoying every second! The fact that Azafady is such a small charity also means that your role as a volunteer is massively appreciated: the London and Madagascar staff are ready to… Read Full Review

“A Brilliant Experience!”

Written on: 30/06/2014

My ten weeks as a pioneer was a rewarding, humbling and challenging experience - but also a LOT of fun! The staff were amazing - so helpful, friendly and often went beyond the call of duty to help us - for instance as translators! The organisation and administration was handled enthusiastically and effectively, making me feel in very safe hands before I even arrived, and continuing through the program. The scenery and camp sites were BEAUTIFUL and our unique insight into Malagasy culture… Read Full Review

“Azafady: A fabulous organization!”

Written on: 23/06/2014 by DCoop (1 review written)

I retired and was working on my 'bucket list' of places I wanted to visit, and seeing lemurs in Madagascar was one of them. I did my Google search and up came Azafady. How lucky could I be??? From the moment I made first contact, everyone was helpful, responsive, and organized. We pulled the trip (my application, my health stuff, my travel docs and everything) together in less than a month. When I arrived, I was terrified, as my last trip to Africa (Kenya) was spent mostly in the latrine… Read Full Review

“An amazing unforgettable trip in Madagascar”

Written on: 24/10/2013 by EveH (1 review written)

I spent 10 weeks volunteering with Azafady on their Pioneer Programme in January 2007. I had an absolutely brilliant time and met such amazing people, volunteers and staff alike. I felt confident the work we were doing was extremely beneficial to the local communities, and was well informed and very well looked after throughout. The work we did included building a school and latrines, planting trees and some health and environmental education in local schools. It was often tough and very wet… Read Full Review

“A Truly Inspiring Experience”

Written on: 14/10/2013

I spent July and August volunteering with Azafady's Conservation Program, and I can honestly say that everyday I spent there was absolutely incredible. We were able to work hands on in conducting research on biodiversity and conservation and despite any challenges that could come our way, Azafady was always there to support and care for its volunteers. As a small NGO, it was so impressive to see how much work is being don in the region where Azafady operates, and how much of an impact this work… Read Full Review

“Azafady is awesome”

Written on: 23/07/2013 by Ja.Da (1 review written)

Azafady is a truly amazing NGO. After 10 weeks in Madagascar on the pioneer scheme I could not help but be struck by the incredible impact the charity has on Fort Dauphin and its surrounding area. Their wide and effective involvement in health, sanitation and conservation amongst many other things sets them apart from other relatively small NGOs - one can hardly walk through Fort Dauphin or the villages of the surrounding area without seeing Azafady's impact in the form of toilets (an… Read Full Review

“An Incredible Experience”

Written on: 23/07/2013

I did the 10 week Pioneer scheme (Jan-March) as a part of my gap year. I felt like I was in safe hands all the way through from pre-daparture to landing back home. Our group was led by confident, English speaking, Malagasy staff, who guided us expertly through our volunteering procedure. They knew the ins and outs of the country since they had lived there all their life and became great friends of the group. Our group was an excellent range of people, from all over the world and also different… Read Full Review

An experience of a lifetime, that surpassed all expectations, and these were high! Azafady’s pioneer programme is incredibly well thought through and well organised from start to finish. From the initial pre-departure help in the UK to an extensive support system in the field, the project has been designed not only to provide a great experience for volunteers but also most importantly, to do some genuine good for the local people. Small groups also ensure maximum involvement in everything, a… Read Full Review

“The best way to experience Madagascar”

Written on: 24/03/2013 by cloudatlas1 (1 review written)

I travelled to Madagascar to work with the ACP team for 5 weeks last year. I had wanted to go to the country for a number of years and after reading about the ACP programme, it seemed like a great way to see the wildlife of Madadagascar and understand more about the Malagasy people and culture. I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The London office were really helpful before my departure and provided us with alot of information about what to take out, what to expect and put me in… Read Full Review

“The most wonderfull experience of Madagascar”

Written on: 11/02/2013 by Frankieh (1 review written)

I went to Madagascar to spend 4 weeks on the ACP scheme with Azafady. I absolutely loved it and was gutted that I couldn't have stayed for the whole 10 weeks. Right from the start when I first enquired about the trips, the london office were very helpfull and were there to help with any little question I had untill I left. When I arrived everything was very well organised with meeting us and getting us settled and orientated into Fort Dauphin. When we went to St Luce the campsite was really… Read Full Review

“What a great experience !”

Written on: 10/12/2012 by SueHillman (1 review written)

I've been meaning to write this review for ages as I went to Madagascar with Azafady in January and February 2012 but it may be just as well I waited as the experience is even better from this distance. From the beginning I was given excellent help from Joe in London all the way through the decision process about which trip to go on, through the booking and all the useful documentation and tips. The arrival and getting orientated was well organised and when we set off into the bush the… Read Full Review

“Somehow the most exciting & relaxing holiday I've ever...”

Written on: 12/11/2012 by IlonaKR (1 review written)

My trip to Madagascar came about after getting totally mesmerised by David Attenborough's Madagascar documentary. I wasn't exactly a stranger to travel before this having been all over USA, Europe and Australia as well as Morocco, Cuba and Antigua. However, I'd not done something quite as different as this before. After quite a bit of research we ended up booking to go with Azafady through Responsible Travel. The team at Azafady are so friendly and helpful. Despite the fact that there are… Read Full Review

“My amazing experience with Azafady in Madagascar”

Written on: 08/09/2012

After 2 ½ days of traveling, I finally reached Fort Dauphin in the southeast of Madagascar in the morning of October 5, 2010. I had joined Azafady, a UK registered charity also having an office in Madagascar, for their Pioneer program for 6 weeks. A program that takes part in a range of construction work, conservation research and educational activities. Pioneers work on an extensive range of projects from the building of wells and schools in remote villages to teaching English and planting… Read Full Review

“Azafady NGO - Madagascar's finest!”

Written on: 10/07/2012 by moniquelaj (1 review written)

I spent ten weeks volunteering in the SE of Madagascar with Azafady. Before arriving I had a fair bit of confidence in the NGO based on their great communication and total openness as I drilled them about finances and sustainability of projects. From start to finish that confidence never dwindled. Azafady creates the perfect environment for their volunteers to experience the reality of life in the poorest area of the country while maintaining safety and fun. Our group slept in tents, used… Read Full Review

“Lemurs, laughter and life changing”

Written on: 10/07/2012

I went with Azafady to Madagascar in May this year on the 10 week Pioneer Project. Honestly, I don't really know how to start explaining what a fantastic and unique time I had there - many of our group felt the experience had been life-changing! We were a group of 19 from 6 different countries, ranging in age from 19 to 55 and we all fell in love with the country and the people. I mean, how can fail to like a place where all the vowels and stars have gone, the money makes everyone a… Read Full Review

“Best decision ever!”

Written on: 06/07/2012

Hands down, volunteering with Azafady was the greatest decision I ever made. I cannot say enough good things about the program - the people are fantastic and very supportive, the program itself (I took part in the Conservation Programme) was interesting, educational, and fun, and the chance to experience Madagascar was priceless. It is a beautiful country filled with beautiful people, and I truly left my heart behind when I came back to the US. I can't say enough good things about the… Read Full Review

“The Greatest 10 Weeks Of My Life!”

Written on: 28/06/2012 by JonnyComber92 (1 review written)

A 20 year old boy who hasn't left home for more than a week embarking on 10 weeks in a 3rd world country is quite a challenge! But right from the word go, Azafady helped me accomplish this challenge! The charity is phenomenal in my opinion. From the guys in the London office who answer all your questions before departure to the 4 Malagasy guides who look after whilst on the project. I can't speak high enough of these 4 people. From day one they make themselves known to the group and straight… Read Full Review

“Fantastic, totally immersive ecotourism”

Written on: 12/06/2012 by danielgwood (1 review written)

This year I was lucky enough to spend a fantastic month in Madagascar with Azafady. Arriving in Madagascar we were all struck by the difference in lifestyles, even those of us who had travelled and seen similar levels of poverty before. At the same time though, the Malagasy were incredibly friendly and welcoming to us, and always smiling despite the daily hardships many of them endure. We saw a vast array of animals and plants during our trip, including several species of the famous lemurs… Read Full Review

I totally agree! I went to Madagascar with Azafady in July 2010 and 2 years on there is barely a day that goes by where I don't fondly recall memories of my time working with Azafady. I am a different person now, where material things don't attract me like they used to. After seeing the extreme poverty in which some people live it gives a whole new perspective on life. Azafady is an amazing NGO, where a real, lasting difference is made for the communities which they work in. Working with Azafady was incredible, rewarding and completely life changing. My advice to anybody who is thinking of volunteering with Azafady is DO IT! You will not regret it!

“Pioneering in Madagascar ”

Written on: 08/06/2012

Volunteering in Madagascar with Azafady was the ultimate combination of very hard work with great feelings of reward and a bit of travel and relaxation in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The organisation made it possible for us volunteers to feel safe in a new environment, whilst also letting us explore on our own. Azafady has a great team, both internationals and locals, that are helpful and kind, who are there to see to your well being, as well as to teach volunteers about the… Read Full Review

“Fun in the sun!”

I spent two weeks out of my month long trip to Madagascar volunteering with Azafady's ACP program. It was quite a rewarding experience. I was able to experience Madagascar in a way I wouldn't have otherwise. Taking part in the animal research gave me the opportunity to learn more deeply about the species and the environmental issues they face. I was able to learn more about how the local people affect their environment and how much they really depend on it. I really enjoyed making fuel… Read Full Review
