“Azafady Conservation Programme”

Written on: 26/08/2015 by 252Kennedy (1 review written)

An inspirational way to spend my summer. I was with Azafady for only two weeks, but left feeling like I had a years worth of experiences. Everyday was exciting and educational, with a great mix of international volunteers and local guides. The involvement in the local community of Sainte Luce was very special. Particular highlights were teaching conservation club to children between ages of 3-21 and English to ages 10-44. Walking through littoral rainforest searching the forest floor for frogs… Read Full Review

“The best choice I have ever made”

Written on: 19/04/2015 by viWilliams83 (1 review written)

Last summer I jumped on a plane to Madagascar to spend 10 weeks doing the Pioneer program with Azafady. I was excited, and nervous, and I thought I knew what to expect, I was so wrong. The Pioneer program was so incredibly rewarding. If you are thinking about going overseas for any reason whatsoever I recommend Azafady. The charity and Malgasy NGO is doing amazing work for people and the results can be seen in each person you talk to. My only recommendation is that you choose to stay the full… Read Full Review

“I wish I'd gone for longer”

Written on: 03/04/2015 by mdpointer (1 review written)

You stay on the edge of St Luce, a small village in the rural SE of Madagascar. Tents are centered on a wooden long-house where meals are eaten and the hanging-out is done between trips in to the forest. These forest trips range from half-hour bird surveys to a couple of hours following lemurs or conducting Herp surveys - all very informative and good fun. All in the most amazing forest surroundings with the ever-present chance of seeing something incredible. All of the Azadafy staff, whether… Read Full Review

“Experience Madagascar With Azafady!”

Written on: 02/04/2015

I am an experienced field biologist that was looking to volunteer in Africa and see as many primate species as possible. As Azafady was recommended to me by a past volunteer (who I volunteer with through another organization in Canada), I knew they were a trustworthy and legitimate organization. Azafady answered my numerous questions in a timely manner before my departure, and ensured someone picked me up at the airport after 12:00am. I rented an amazing tent from the organization and it help… Read Full Review

“Best way to spend 8 weeks”

Written on: 02/03/2015

Azafady is a great organization and well worth the donation. The staff is excellent and it's a fantastic way to get experience with field research while being immersed in the Malagache culture. If you're looking for a gap year program, Azafady covers all bases from the science to the culture experience and the fun. Would recommend again and again!… Read Full Review

“Please note, no review would do it justice, but here I...”

Written on: 06/01/2015

I consider myself to be a slight introvert, meeting new people and making friends is not something I can call myself good at. However, being an animal and wildlife enthusiast from a young age means I always wanted to travel, and see things with my own eyes. I stumbled across the Azafady conservation programme, and was drawn in by the conservation side of things, not to mention the fact that it takes place in Madagascar. I think my thought process at the time was, if I failed to make any friends… Read Full Review

“Azafady Conservation Programme - Experience of a lifetime!”

Written on: 02/09/2014 by mefegan (1 review written)

My 4 weeks with the Azafady Conservation Programme were just amazing! The research into the wildlife of Ste. Luce was fascinating and will hopefully help protect the amazing endemic species found there in the future. Watching lemur behaviour and finding chameleons and geckos by night will definitely stay with me for the rest of my life! The programme also allowed me to interact with the local community by teaching the children about the forest and English lessons. So much fun and the community… Read Full Review

“An Outstandingly Rich Experience”

Written on: 19/08/2014 by Sam.Beer (1 review written)

Having volunteered for 10 weeks on the Azafady pioneer programme I can honestly say I could not have spent the time better; if only I had had more. The work was hard, varied and remarkably immersive. We connected not only with each other as volunteers but with many of the locals both in Fort Dauphin and out in the 'bush'. The opportunity to work with a truly Madagascan organisation like Azafady, created and run by Malagasy residents, is unique; I will treasure it forever… Read Full Review

Doing the pioneer program with Azafady has been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The people are incredible, the environment is breathtaking, and the work is very rewarding. Geckos, lemurs, and people you will never forget. I would most definitely recommend the pioneer program to anyone interested in volunteer work. Azafady makes a point to work with the community and no matter where you go you always feel welcome. Don't be daunted by the length of time, you will want the full ten weeks… Read Full Review

“Worthwhile + loads of fun”

Azafady is a fantastic charity. The work they do is locally-focused and sustainable, and the important projects you'll be doing are balanced by some incredible things to see and do on your days off. In my 10 weeks as a Pioneer with this NGO, I always felt that I was contributing to something really valuable, whilst enjoying every second! The fact that Azafady is such a small charity also means that your role as a volunteer is massively appreciated: the London and Madagascar staff are ready to… Read Full Review

“A Brilliant Experience!”

Written on: 30/06/2014

My ten weeks as a pioneer was a rewarding, humbling and challenging experience - but also a LOT of fun! The staff were amazing - so helpful, friendly and often went beyond the call of duty to help us - for instance as translators! The organisation and administration was handled enthusiastically and effectively, making me feel in very safe hands before I even arrived, and continuing through the program. The scenery and camp sites were BEAUTIFUL and our unique insight into Malagasy culture… Read Full Review

“Azafady: A fabulous organization!”

Written on: 23/06/2014 by DCoop (1 review written)

I retired and was working on my 'bucket list' of places I wanted to visit, and seeing lemurs in Madagascar was one of them. I did my Google search and up came Azafady. How lucky could I be??? From the moment I made first contact, everyone was helpful, responsive, and organized. We pulled the trip (my application, my health stuff, my travel docs and everything) together in less than a month. When I arrived, I was terrified, as my last trip to Africa (Kenya) was spent mostly in the latrine… Read Full Review

“An amazing unforgettable trip in Madagascar”

Written on: 24/10/2013 by EveH (1 review written)

I spent 10 weeks volunteering with Azafady on their Pioneer Programme in January 2007. I had an absolutely brilliant time and met such amazing people, volunteers and staff alike. I felt confident the work we were doing was extremely beneficial to the local communities, and was well informed and very well looked after throughout. The work we did included building a school and latrines, planting trees and some health and environmental education in local schools. It was often tough and very wet… Read Full Review

“A Truly Inspiring Experience”

Written on: 14/10/2013

I spent July and August volunteering with Azafady's Conservation Program, and I can honestly say that everyday I spent there was absolutely incredible. We were able to work hands on in conducting research on biodiversity and conservation and despite any challenges that could come our way, Azafady was always there to support and care for its volunteers. As a small NGO, it was so impressive to see how much work is being don in the region where Azafady operates, and how much of an impact this work… Read Full Review

“Azafady is awesome”

Written on: 23/07/2013 by Ja.Da (1 review written)

Azafady is a truly amazing NGO. After 10 weeks in Madagascar on the pioneer scheme I could not help but be struck by the incredible impact the charity has on Fort Dauphin and its surrounding area. Their wide and effective involvement in health, sanitation and conservation amongst many other things sets them apart from other relatively small NGOs - one can hardly walk through Fort Dauphin or the villages of the surrounding area without seeing Azafady's impact in the form of toilets (an… Read Full Review

“An Incredible Experience”

Written on: 23/07/2013

I did the 10 week Pioneer scheme (Jan-March) as a part of my gap year. I felt like I was in safe hands all the way through from pre-daparture to landing back home. Our group was led by confident, English speaking, Malagasy staff, who guided us expertly through our volunteering procedure. They knew the ins and outs of the country since they had lived there all their life and became great friends of the group. Our group was an excellent range of people, from all over the world and also different… Read Full Review

An experience of a lifetime, that surpassed all expectations, and these were high! Azafady’s pioneer programme is incredibly well thought through and well organised from start to finish. From the initial pre-departure help in the UK to an extensive support system in the field, the project has been designed not only to provide a great experience for volunteers but also most importantly, to do some genuine good for the local people. “The best way to experience Madagascar”

Written on: 24/03/2013 by cloudatlas1 (1 review written)

I travelled to Madagascar to work with the ACP team for 5 weeks last year. I had wanted to go to the country for a number of years and after reading about the ACP programme, it seemed like a great way to see the wildlife of Madadagascar and understand more about the Malagasy people and culture. I had an amazing experience from start to finish. The London office were really helpful before my departure and provided us with alot of information about what to take out, what to expect and put me in… Read Full Review

“The most wonderfull experience of Madagascar”

I went to Madagascar to spend 4 weeks on the ACP scheme with Azafady. I absolutely loved it and was gutted that I couldn't have stayed for the whole 10 weeks. Right from the start when I first enquired about the trips, the london office were very helpfull and were there to help with any little question I had untill I left. When I arrived everything was very well organised with meeting us and getting us settled and orientated into Fort Dauphin. When we went to St Luce the campsite was really… Read Full Review
