I can't even call it a trip. But it wasn't a vacation. It was more like engaging in a wonderful, dream-life for a few short weeks. I loved living in a 'house', not a hotel. It was very personal that way. I made friends with the house staff, volunteers and the lion handlers. We would play games if we were not "working". That included spending time with beautiful lion cubs in the spectacular world of Zambia. What a wonderful creation God has made! This time I was able to learn how to care for the lions and not just view them. I would prepare donkey meat or scoop up skeletons for enclosure cleaning. Elephant research included going on wild adventures on the back of a truck collecting valuable data. Even if no elephants are spotted (which, in the end, are ususally located!) there are plenty of wild game surrounding you in the National Park that you are staying in. The side trips to Botswana included a live kill by wild lions. In Zimbabwe, we learned of the project Lion Encounter under ALERT on a larger scale and our role as stewards in the plans fpr lion conservation. I highly recommend the trip to anyone.
