“So disappointed with MultiYork and their sofas- poor...”

We are so disappointed with Multiyork Furniture. We bought two different sofas in December 2015. The two seater Classic is rarely sat on and the three seater Teddington is used for about 3 hours an evening about 4 times a week. The skirt on the three seater has risen up in the centre of the sofa. The cushions are a mix of foam and feather, and quite frankly, are so uncomfortable and are all lumpy and are losing their shape even after redressing. We were advised we would need to dress the cushions occasionally, and we do do that. However, as soon as we sit on them the cushions sink at the corners/edges and we are having to wedge a scatter cushion to level our posture! We contacted Multiyork about a month ago to express our disappointment and they sent out someone from Homeserve to take a look and do a technical assessment and do his report. He reported we needed to dress the cushions every time we sit on them! Ridiculous! I told him that wasn't what we had been advised when purchasing the sofas. We knew if we had had feather cushions, then this would have been the case. He redressed the cushions, and to be honest they looked worse than ever! I wrote my comments on his report. We then had a call from the lady who sold us the sofas (to be fair she was very helpful and understood where we were coming from and said herself she didn't think it was good enough!). Our complaint was then sent to someone higher within the company and we have today had a letter advising that 'they do not consider there to be grounds to dispute the Homeserve findings and on this basis I regret that this claim is considered to be invalid'.

These sofas cost around £4,000. We researched sofas for about 18 months - 2 years and thought we had found a reputable company offering good quality sofas. The service before we bought the sofas was absolutely brilliant. However, apart from the lady who sold us the sofas and her efforts to try and help us, MultiYork's after service, although they have sent Homeserve out, they seem to have dismissed the fact that the sofas are not up to the standard they should be. What use is a sofa, that is about 7 months old, hardly used, and has now become too uncomfortable to sit on?! I cannot believe they are now dismissing our points; they have had our money and now don't seem to give a flying fig! They have advised us to go to The Furniture Ombudsman who will carry out an independent inspection at our expense! (refundable to us if they determine there is evidence of manufacturing defects).....

I was always under the impression that their furniture was top quality... sadly I realise circa £4,000 later, they are not!

The joke of this is that we also bought a 2nd hand suite of similar design to go with the sofas we have bought through M.Y. which are 15 years old, and have foam seat cushions and feather back cushions. These are so comfortable, and I know they came from a home where they were used well, and I don’t need to dress them daily.

So, that said, does that indicate that their standards and quality have dropped??!!.......

I will not be recommending MultiYork to anyone! I will point them in the direction of ebay instead!

Oh, and no doubt I will get a message from her expressing how sorry she is to hear about our disappointment with the sofas and MultiYork itself..... just like all the other reviews I have been reading.. but...... that doesn't make our sofas more comfortable and doesn't fix the rising skirt situation!

We will be contacting the Ombudsman…..
