ArelySharpe79's review of Ikea

“Shame I can't score lower than 0.”

I ordered some wardrobes yesterday, 19/07/2014, for delivery today, 20/07/2014. I have to say, the delivery service from IKEA was the WORST delivery I have EVER experienced. Given I complete all my purchases online, you can imagine I have encountered a lot of delivery services.

I was provided with a 7am-1pm slot - absolutely fine, and perfectly acceptable. However, this is ONLY acceptable if these times mean anything.

It is NOT acceptable to get to 1pm, and have had no update whatsoever from IKEA. I rang the "Customer Care line", and was initially on hold for 30 minutes, when the line went dead, and then called a second time to be told there was now a 45 minute queue - so I waited, and waited, and eventually got someone on the phone. When I explained the situation he advised he would put me on hold again (excellent) and find out what was happening. After 4 minutes 38 seconds, he returned to tell me he couldn't get hold of the delivery company. Wow - if things couldn't get better, his next comment was "Just sit tight, I'm sure they will be here shortly."

2:30pm arrives, and FINALLY a call from someone: "Morning madam, delivery with you in 1 hour *hang up*". Firstly, 2:30pm is NOT the morning. Secondly, how about an apology, or even wait for a response?!

Regardless of this, we waited until 3:30pm, when the wardrobes eventually arrived. After 10 impatient rings on my flat buzzer, I was greeted at the door by a surly couple of men - actually I wasn't greeted, they walked straight past me to speak to my male partner. Lovely. Really feels worth spending almost £500.

Then, as if this debacle wasn't stressful enough, I was told there were 8 things with my name on in the van - but they were only willing to deliver 6, because "that's what it said on the order" - if they'd bothered to flick over the page, they would have known that some of the boxes were in 2 parts. So after another 20 minutes of haggling to be able to receive all my items, that I have pre-paid for, the wardrobes are FINALLY sitting on my bedroom floor. I just hope there weren't any other things on that van with my name on it, and when I begin putting them together, I won't be left an item short... God help me if I have to contact that number again.

What an absolute joke. I work in Customer Care as a manager, and I can honestly tell you if my team acted as irresponsibly as IKEA and their courier service have done today, none of us would be in work.

It should NOT be that difficult to get a delivery - particularly when you pay £35 for the privilege.

If you can, get a car that is big enough to take your purchases home yourself. IKEA products are ok - but their service, or lack thereof is absolutely atrocious.
