brakenoodle's review of Ikea

★★★★☆

“Good entry level home furnishings”

I recently had to furnish a whole house and being a bloke, can't be bothered shopping all over the country when Ikea has everything under one roof. I like the simple, clean design lines and the fact that most products are available the same day, including large items like sofas, washing machines and fridges etc. See it, buy it, chuck it in the car, bring it home, bish-bosh job done, easy. You won't get that at DFS. Quality wise it's okay. Assemble it with extra glue and it's solid enough and no worse that most flat pack furniture.
Down sides are: delivery charges can be a shock, so get your own wheels and a few of the items are poorly made but then they are cheap, so you get what you pay for. My small table cost £8 and does the same job as one made by Chippendale.
Customer service was fine when I returned some items, and I got a refund with no drama. Everything I bought was complete but there is a rack of spare parts available if you need any screws, fixings etc. Also most Ikeas are a complete nightmare at busy times so pick your visiting times carefully if you can, to avoid the crowds. The restaurant is adequate but nothing stunning and the meat balls taste okay but seem to have the strange effect of swallowing an car air-bag, even though I only had a few - very filling.
