I wanted to buy several pieces of furniture this afternoon. After having spent a long time deciding what I needed, I found that the mattress I wanted (Sultan Hamnvik) was out of stock.
I asked a member of staff what could be done about this. I intended to buy the other items and hoped that the mattress could be delivered when it came into stock.
I was passed around several members of staff, one of whom rudely walked off in the middle of our conversation. I was told that I would have to visit the shop again if I wanted the mattress and that there would be no way to avoid paying the delivery fee twice. The final member of staff I spoke to was more polite but the message was the same.
Faced with this inflexibility and bad service I decided to buy nothing from Ikea today and will not return there in future. Instead, I will shop in Glasgow city centre, where I hope to be dealt with more reasonably.
In this way I will also avoid the awful bus jouney from Pollokshields to Ikea. It took more than an hour to reach the shop from only 6 miles away. Quicker than walking but not by much.
