I am a pensioner & we bought special beds from Bensons Stockport to cater for our needs.The salesman could not do enough for us (obviously his salary iwas commissioned based) and offered all kind of incentives to buy thr products.
We filled all the necessary forms in and when we got to the part about delivery we advised him that the driver must speak to us before delivery because we were difficult to find. This he promised they would do plus we would receive a call 24 hours before which put our minds at rest.
The day of delivery arrived and my wife sat in all day even though we were advised that delivery would be between 12:00 & 18.00 in the afternoon and the driver would telephone us an hour before he delivered.At 16:30 we were getting a bit worried so I rang their Warehouse in Huncoats ,Accrington to find out what time we could expect delivery only to be told he had tried to deliver 2 hours earlier an they could prove that because they had a picture of where they had tried to deliver.
After hanging on for 20 mins I was told that there had been a mistake because the driver had a picture of a detached house and we live in a 1 bedroomed apartment and she apologised profusely and said they wood deliver the following day (not with the same driver I hoped). When I asked why the driver could not return with the bed that night , bearing in mind they were supposed to deliver up to 18:00 I was told the bed was back in the warehouse,all the drivers had gone home.& the warehouse was now shut.Does that sound an honest answer to you ? No me neither.
So after complaining about having nothing to sleep on that night we were told it was our own fault for getting rid of our old bed and then referred us to the small print in the terms & conditions.
The salesman had told us to make sure the old bed had to be moved before delivery could be made of the new items & has we live in a 1bedroomed flat we had no other alternative than to dispose of it elsewhere.
Obviously by that time it must have been getting near her home time has she insisted on transferring me to Customer Services if I wanted to make a complaint.
Customer Services probably came out of this fiasco best of all and were most helpful even though they couldn't arrange delivery that evening.
One strange point to this story is that when I asked would they pay for a Hotel room I was told no but we could spend up to £140 on blow up mattresses for the night. When I said we could get a Hotel Room for that amount she was told by her section leader that it had to be on blow uo beds.When I told her we were both 68 years of age I think she realised the suggestion was a bit silly especially as we had bought special mattresses from them.
One thing I can't understand is that when you have been let down and you ring the delivery warehouse & it is their fault & they are telling you that you will have no bed to sleep in that night they also tell you in the next breath not to get annoyed with them.
I would say to them they should change their job and not work for such an inefficient company who do not value good customer relations
