“Problems With Samsung American Style Fridges”

★★☆☆☆

written by aceflyer on 31/07/2014

We have had this American style fridge for around 6 years, plenty of storage, nice looking, been very reliable. But last week it started to get noisy and eventually over 2 days began to clatter and whirr, keeping us awake at night. Then bliss the noise stopped but it would not cool below 16 degrees Fahrenheit. So I thought new fridge freezer these things don't last for ever after all our last fridge only lasted about 25 years what do you expect. I noticed solid ice was growing out of the left-hand deodoriser vent. So I spent a few happy hours chipping away at this ice until the vent was clear, no difference of course so went on the internet to find this was a common problem wtih Samsung fridges. As the fridge is out of warranty I decided to have a go following the repair advice and decided to remove the fan panel at the back. Removed the deodoriser vents, then the four screws, as advised the panel was held solid with ice so out came the trusty air dryer and after about an hour and a half jiggling and blowing after disconnecting two electric clips, off came the panel. There were three quite substantial blocks of ice at the back. One encasing the fan, how it worked at all I do not know, one around a sensor were wires came out of the radiator grille, and one around another component at the bottom. Easily removed well about anther 45 mins or so with the hair dryer. Not enough space here so will write a 2nd part.

The panel was put back with all the ice removed, the fridge took abut 15mins to start dropping the temperature after switching the fridge back on, important not to meddle wthout turning off completely. It has been working perfectly to date, there is a delay on the fan kicking back in don't assume it is broken. Don' assume you need these repair kits offered on the internet as I have used none so far and all is fine. I am seeing ice around the vent again so I suspect I may need a defrost heater , I will look again after 6 months if it carries on working, and post again if a new heater is needed.
