The Sony SMP-N100 is actually my favourite device, paired with Apple TV.
It's feature rich and has multiple different services, it's also great as a network and usb media player + photo viewer.
HD out, and stereo audio out is a plus, unlike apple tv which has no audio out.
BBC iPlayer :)
Feels high quality, is fast and responsive.
Great value for money (tip, you can also get it baked in to a nice sony blu-ray player for circa £80 GBP from big stores like asda and online)
Sony Entertainment Network (to rent new films) is cheaper and faster than apple movies.
LoveFilm rather than Netflix.
No Vimeo. No iTunes. No Apple "tv series" on demand (even though series passes on apple are extortionately priced).
Not quite as "polished" as apple products.
No search as you type, so searching for things can be time consuming.
All in, I'd suggest anybody looking for a good internet/smart tv device considers this strongly, and if you can also get apple tv.
Sadly, the clincher (for me) in all of this is that apple tv has netflix (crucial) and vimeo (bonus), and the Sony SMP-N100 doesn't. This is sad because the quality of the product is primarily reflected through the internet services available on the devices, rather on the quality of the devices themselves.
