Just a few days ago, we used Xoom for the first time. Usually, we send money overseas in a different fashion, but were not terribly pleased with the cost of sending it. One transaction that we wished to do with our own bank, one of the largest in the United States, was going to charge us $40.00 to send less than $1,000 via wire transfer. That is simply outrageous, as all it involves on the bank's part, is a rapid transfer of digits, electronically.

Frustrated, we researched the various ways to do it, online, and decided to try Xoom. Most of the people who used their services were very pleased, and their ratings were consistently high.

We opened a Xoom account, and waited a few days, to see what would happen. We received an email from them, thanking us for opening an account, and offering assistance with our first transfer.

After making sure the family member who was supposed to pick up the money transfer, would be in the city we were transferring the money to, we initiated the transfer.

About 1-2 hours later, we received a phone call from Xoom, verifying our information, and verifying the amount of the transfer. They were friendly, polite, and competent.

Once the Xoom transfer was approved - by Xoom - the money was available within hours. It could actually have been minutes...we don't know, as it was nighttime for us, then.

The money was picked up, and the family member said they were in and out of the authorized Xoom location, in less than 5 minutes.

The charge was minimal, the service was great, and we are very, very pleased.
