The Ford Escort became one of the best known Hot Hatches and family cars after it was launched in 1980. The hot-hatch version was offered from 1981. In 1982 a new five speed synchromesh gearbox was fitted to the XR3 and it was further remodified and upgraded in 1983 to become the XR3i. Famously the XR3i was built at the Saarlouis factory, Germany. The XR3i benefited from a slight lowering and new gearing and Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system which created a new 120mph top speed. In 1986 the Escort received a further revamp to Mk IV with new alloy wheels and anti-lock brakes whilst retaining its high performance 105bhp engine and five speed gearbox. The XR3i name lived until the mid-1990s when its reputation as a boy racer vehicle along with increased insurance costs helped its demise.

Pretty good car for £122. very economical, quick (for a diesel), looks good, sounds good, very reliable.
Can be noisy, doesn't always respond until the turbo kicks in, few bits in the interior not working, bit

Item: Ford Escort XR3i
Ive owned my mk4 cabriolet for just over a year now and i would say its the best car ever !i only paid 175 quid ive always wanted one and would certainly recommend one to anyone its very hard to find one in good condition and that hasnt done many miles and ent been thrashed but if you could get your hands on one defo go for it ...

Item: Ford Escort Van 1.8D
MOTs are a nightmare. My Ford Escort van 1999 less than 60000 on clock ex-Royal Mail. Last 3 MOTs have cost me over £1500. Heater packed up long ago. New clutch needed at 55000? Stearing problems alone £500. Rust is becoming a concern as is an oil leak as is loss of power stearing fluid!
Dont bother buy a vw caddy ...

Item: Ford Escort XR3i
If your into your modern cars then you won't like them as they have no power steering, rare with abs, but in my eyes now power steering is better, mine has the rs turbo engine in it which transforms this car, there ' s lag till about 2750 rpm then it just goes, you can hear the turbo come in and then a very loud dump valve, mines not been chipped and running about 10psi and it still fly's, if you want one and don't care about power get the standard 3i but if you like a bit of kick get one with ...

Easy to fuel, and are real workhorses and go on forever. A large carrying area an can carry thing such as ladder with no problem.
All in all a fab van as I now own 3... I would highly recome
