Up until now, I have been a big fan of Donald Russell. Great quality meat and good service. Now I am wondering if there is something seriously wrong with the company. I have been trying to contact them for over a week: Phone lines go unanswered emails have an automated reply, but no follow up, their messaging service is unresponsive and their live chat is dead. WHAT IS GOING ON? They have the wrong delivery address and I am not sure where my order will end up.

In the last two weeks we placed two orders with Donald Russell. On BOTH occasions, despite opting for the £4 morning delivery, neither order arrived until the late afternoon. Donald Russell have since refunded the £8 paid, but did not address the issues of the late deliveries. As for the meat, it was very disappointing. The slow cooked beef ribs were the best of the bunch - just! However, the small boneless lamb legs which I had ordered for Easter and should "take 40 minutes to cook", stated on the two "boulders" we received stated "three and a half hours cooking'?! Thinking it was a mistake, even though the meat looked nothing like the meat I had ordered, I decided to cook one this last Sunday! After the suggested 40 minutes there was no way I could even get a knife through it!! Even after the further 2 hours slow cooking, it was totally inedible and without any taste at all. Even our neighbour's Rottweiler turned his back on it!!! I subsequently spoke to Donald Russell Customer care on Monday and asked for an explanation! It was apparent that getting my money back was going to be an uphill struggle. Eventually Customer Care "magnanimously" made the gesture of refunding me £12 for the one that I had cooked and been unable to eat!! I said that a total refund of £24 to include the remaining joint should also be given!! Her response was "the second joint might be lovely"! What?! Did she really think that I was going to waste another three hours cooking something which was going to be totally inedible? The £12 has been refunded to my bank account, but the issues of inedible meat has been glossed over! All, I would say is "caveat emptor"!! In the case of Donald Russell, all that glisters is NOT gold. Just hope HM Queen has better luck with their meat!

As we were very impressed with their ribeye steaks and pork sausages, I ordered a chateaubriand for a special occassion. Obviously we had high expectations but were very disappointed when the meat turned out pretty tough and tasteless. The rump steak we cooked at the same time was better. I cooked it medium rare and am actually pretty annoyed considering the price and it kind of spoiled the evening for me. I've ordered 3 or 4 times but this will definitely be the last time I order from this company.

I ordered the chipolatas and thats what i expected to get ! but to me they were more like the small size of cocktail sausages!! and they cost £4- for eight !!! also in this delivery i ordered some battered haddock fillets, on the package it said cook from frozen for real crispy batter!!! but this was not as it turned out as not crispy at all, also they are the tail ends of the fish and there was very little fish in them and for what we paid we could have had a great fish/chip meal out at our favourate chippy including a glass of wine. Sorry Donald Russle but we will not be buying from you again.

Quite nice meat but not worth waiting in all day and evening only to not receive the order. Money taken two days in advance of promised delivery date but nothing delivered. They need to sort out their couriers - will not be ordering again but no doubt will be bombarded by one of their catalogues every week. Perhaps more money spent on the courier and less on the brochures would be a good idea.

I have ordered a few times from them, the meat is good, but overpriced. I can get as good if not better from a local butcher at a much better price. The ready meals are awful (steer clear of the curries). The delivery service is atrocious! Last week my order was delivered a day late (after 2 days in transit) Today I've waited for an order which shows as #delivered' at 2pm and it wasn't and still hasn't been! I rand Russell's t3 times between 4pm and 6pm and each time was told that customer services were busy and would call me back. They never did! My advice is to find a good local butcher, forget the 'on-line' speel and save yourself money and inconvenience.

I ordered meat to be delivered on the 19/12/14 from D Rusell.It arrived on 22/12/14 totally defrosted the meat had to be binned this was a gift for my son and his family.No explanation as to why the delay. We are to get a refund but the company do not offer any goodwill gesture because of disappointment.I will never use them again or recommend.

The meat we have ordered this year has been excellent both in quality and speed of delivery. It is hard to fault Donald Russell or the presentation of its meat, but if improvement could be made , which is difficult for such a splendid butcher it would be a request to make the website clearer and easier to use.

We placed an order for Donald Russell frozen meat and fish on 28/11 seeking delivery on 1/12. In fact the order was shipped on 29/11 but not delivered until 2/12. No explanation for the delay in delivery was forthcoming but, more to the point, the contents of the package when it did finally arrive were unacceptable: the fish products were wholly defrosted and beginning to smell while the meat products were partially defrosted. Donald Russell offered no apology and we wait to see whether they will volunteer a refund, Needless to say though we will never use them again and would recommend that others scrutinize very carefully any products they buy from Donald Russell. Quality fine and certainly worth a try but how on earth a company with their quality standards got into bed with Citylink I just don't know. Remember your suppliers are an extension of your own business.

Tried this product tonight for the first time and found it very disappointing. Far too much breadcrumbs and quite tasteless pork. I am not sure these products work when cooked from frozen. I have tried the chicken Kiev which was ok as was the fish, but not a patch on the normal meat products which we have always found excellent. Would not buy again.

Just ordered a selection of steaks and they guarantee the finest steak you have ever tasted or your money back. Sadly won't be able to claim any back as I have never had better. Marvellous Wav

We have previously ordered steak from Donald Russell on 3 occasions and thought we would order a selection for christmas. We put in online order and were told to expect delivery on the coming friday ( about 2 weeks before christmas). We received an answerphone message from customer service at 4pm on the wednesdsy asking us to call as there was a problem with the order. We called back at 4:30 and was told that the person dealing with our account had gone home. She couldn't tell us anything, so we didn't know what was going on with the order. We received a call from them next day explaining that unfortunately we had failed the security check!!! We had paid online so not sure what the security check was for! Just because we didn't register a phone number on our account. She went on to say she had checked the electoral register and did a search for our number and because she couldn't find us in the phone directory, they would not dispatch our order! She rebooked it for us for the following friday. The order arrived in 2 boxes and one had defrosted! We didn't know how long it had been defrosted for so chucked it in the bin instead of risking our health. We called customer service and got to speak to the same person who did the security check. She was astounded that we had binned the defrosted item and actually said' you did what!! They would have been fine until christmas! ' considering that this was at least 4 days before christmas, she is not vrry clued up on food safety standards. Overall she was very unprofessional and kept talking over my husband as he was trying quite politely explained the issue with the items.She offered a refund in the end but we are unhappy that we have treated like frauds due to failing a security check! We would have carried on ordering from them but thos treatment of potentially loyal customers is not acceptable.

ORDER DID NOT ARRIVE ON DAY REQUESTED. HAD TO CONTACT CUSTOMER SERVICE MYSELF AND THEY APOLOGISED SAYING IT WOULD ARRIVE THE NEXT MORNING. CALLED THE FOLLOWING MORNING THEN ADVISED THAT IT WOULD NOT ARRIVE UNTIL THAT AFTERNOON. CANCELLED ORDER AND REQUESTED REFUND. CUSTOMER SERVICE ADVISED THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THE ORDER IN TIME HOWEVER IF IT DOES ARRIVE I MAY KEEP IT FREE OF CHARGE. WILL BE GOING IN THE BIN AS THE QUALITY AND FRESHNESS CANNOT BE GUARANTEED. THIS WAS MY FIRST ORDER AND WILL BE THE LAST.

Oh shut up, You obviously know nothing about food. How the hell could beef be non fresh considering it hangs for weeks! This company sends it parcels in the best possible way and could be lost for days without spoiling quality. IDIOT. Go to supermarket!

I cannot believe you would chuck good food in the bin! Irrespective of your uncertainty as to how long it had been in a de-frosted state, the meat was either good (still a good colour, not gone brownie-grey, slimy and smelly) or it was' OFF' and anyone can tell when a piece of meat has 'gone off'.
Good beef is hung for many weeks, usually at least 28 days and sometimes longer, in order to improve its tenderness and flavour. I always think the darker and drier the meat looks, the better it will eat. Sorry about their poor customer service but to throw meat away without establishing that it had truly gone off is just plain crazy. What a waste! Maybe you're the kind of people who throw good eggs away just because they have reached their 'use by' date? An egg is still good to use if it hasn't gone off - as simple as that. No good for poaching I'll admit but great for scrambling and other uses. So please don't waste food.
