Fitness first Epsom is truly shocking in my opinion. The toilets overflow almost weekly with human excrement walked throughout the changing room. The equipment, studios, showers and changing rooms never appear to be clean or cleaned. Equipment lying in the main passages. A law suit waiting to happen. Staff who really do not appear to care. The following is based on the Romford branch of Fitness First.
I signed up to Fitness First as Bupa were doing a good deal.
On signing up it appeared that all they want is your money and they couldnt care less about you as a customer.

When it comes to membership cancellation they give you a really hard time. My wife gave them a months notice for membership cancellation (She was on a 3 months contract). Still they kept sending the reminders for fee payment even after her contract period was over.
One of my friends enrolled for a 3 months contract but after 3 months he was told that he has a 12 month contract. Poor chap paid for 12 months. It didnt stop there after 12 months he cancelled the Direct Debit and guess what, ...

I belong at Rockdale in Sydney. It's huge area (used to be a big hardware store), and the main reason I joined is the 25 m pool. I like to swim 3-4 times a week, and believe it or not, a gym membership is cheaper than using the local public pool, and it's open all year round. As well, the changing areas and showers etc are first class - you can shower, iron clothes, dry hair and generally get ready for work, unlike in the stuffy, cramped conditions at a pool.

When i first joined 10 years ago my local gym was well run with friendly staff and a high quality of equipment and surroundings. Members who do not behave approriatley would have been asked to leave now they let people do anything as long as they are paid.
