“Obstructive, cumbersome, and not at all instant”

I first used Sage over 20 years ago, and was forced back to it by my accountant in recent years. I am staggered that it has become so counter-intuitive. The usual GUI features of drag and drop and copy and paste mostly do not work. It manages to combine vast complexity with useless simplicity. For example the foreign currency calculator is ridiculous - it is only a silly database of exchange rates that you have to enter manually, so of course is never up to date. Easier to go straight to a currency exchange website such as xe.com. The report designer is utterly dire. It was claimed to be a total rewrite about 3 years ago, but there is no comprehensive data dictionary so it's trial and error to find the variables you need, if they are not in the very incomplete list. The help is a joke - badly organised and simplistic. On top of all this, I have to put up with aggressive marketing and no support unless I pay steeply for it. I hate Sage with a passion that is unique in my 35 years with PC systems. Roll on retirement.

Majikthyse's Response to Majikthyse's Review

Correction: There is a data dictionary, but it's strangely organised and not properly indexed, so it's very difficult to find variables. What I need is a quick and easy way to find the variables that appear anywhere in Sage, using the names it uses itself. The problem is that in the report designer they are listed by variable name not by what they do, and a lot of the names are very unhelpful (for example there are several called simply NAME but they mean different things according to where they are).
